OK--finally is time to start catching up with some of the rust spots on the 914-6!!!

Need your advise on the following:
1-What chemical can I use to stop it? where to buy it?
2-Who can perform rust work on the car?
3-Any concerns or watch outs that I should keep in mind (from those of you who have done this).
4-What else can be done to the car (once in the shop) to help prevent future rust problems in the future?

Ask the same question(s) over on www.914Club.com. But say you did a search first (search is VERY frustrating, even when you know exactly what to look for).

I did get another member to call me and offer his help and advise; but I welcome all info anyone has....the more the merrier!!!

The best rust inhibitor and coating I have found is POR-15. For surface rust and future prevention, even some gap-filling, it works great. If you have extensive structural damage from rust, then welding in replacement pieces is the best solution.

I agree with Tom T. Best to cut out the rust and patch with fresh metal and welding. As to a shop????? I dunno. Maybe LDM, Inc. They fabricate from scratch where needed. Drop me a PM for more info.

Also, you might want to think about reinforcing stress points for a 914 track car (like suspension pick-up points, etc.), and possibly strengthening longitudinal/lateral flexing with extra metal on the pan. Just a thought.

Felix, Greg at Malibu did some nice work on my 914 when I was putting it on the road. Although he only worked on places you don't normally see, I saw a few specimens in progress and he does noice work.

I good to hear consistent feedback--I had heard about Greg at Malibu.
Will keep in mind those stress points--I sure do not want to make a full race car out of it--as I am fighting hard to mantain the car as original as possible but fun and a good performer...
