PCA lap times @ SOW vs POC

PCA appears to have some bragging rights to this track. Go back and and check the top 10 times from the PCA event earlier this year running with the bowl clockwise and compare it with the POC top times with the same configuration this past weekend. :P

I believe the POC hasn't used the bowl much at all until recently?? Maybe that's just in the CCW direction. I'm told they deemed it too dangerous for newbies?

Tim, you are right on both counts. However, and I could be wrong here, but we've only run the same configuration twice ourselves. So it's not like we've been doing it "for years" when POC just started. We have all of ONE more event experience than they do in this config.

Of course the STS is POC's "beginner" event, whereas our TT's are our intermediate events.

Well, good. I'll tell you in all seriousness, my favorite turn in the world right now is the bowl run CCW.
* Fly into it in 4th gear, trail brake up to the top groove, down shift to 3rd and back to full throttle around the top groove, then start pointing the car downhill to a late apex with a slightly lifted throttle. The exit is slightly banked and will catch your sliding car with, still with good speed. Around the next right and back into 4th gear flatout through the next left hander.
Good times......good times....
Oh, for comp's, I turned mid to high 1:32's in both directions with old TOYO's. Got some good video, too. :D

There's something wrong with this picture, Mike. There ain't no way I'm as fast as Steve Bernheim, either as a driver, or comparing my street GT3 to his race car. Is the STS a race or TT?

STS is a beginners TT as far as I can tell.

They were using the bowl in CW direction on Sunday. I was out at the big track with NASA. Maybe they through in an extra curve somewhere. Sounded good anyway.

Mike, there are some very experienced drivers at those STS events. So I would not say they are beginners.

Now that I have stirred the friendly competition pot a bit over at POC and got their attention, what do you guys think about a SOW shootout between the PCA and POC? Run CW one day and CCW the next, with the bowl. I think it would be a great time if we can do it.

Excellent idea. I like when people from the 2 clubs crossover. We end up getting great ideas from each other.
With the 944 spec class there would be no problem because our rules are nearly identical in PCA, POC, NASA.
However, other classes might be troublesome to compare apples to apples, i.e., "I'm a KP car in PCA, what am I in POC?"

My opportunity to take advantage of the discussion....

Grand Prix Region "Day Away from Work" Autocross on October 3 at SOW. Only $100 (including event t-shirt and substantial goodie-bags w/very nice trophies). Also only about 60 cars -- translated into almost two hours track time.....

See www.pca.org/zone8 for registration info on Events Calendar....
