The most significant and clearly negative performance additive is ethanol. It is added to gas (10% - 15% concentration range)at most pumps in the USA and can contribute or trigger a variety of combustion maladies. It also makes leaving a car sIt for more than two weeks problematic - it makes the fuel system much more susceptible to problems than a car with ethanol free fuel. Most performance vehicle owners (whether car, motorcycle, or otherwise) that are attuned to how the engine is operating will notice a favorable difference if the car is running on ethanol free fuel.
There are no gas stations offering ethanol free fuel in the Socal region. Try Texas or Oklahoma.
Disclaimer - this post is only based on the metric of efficient energy production from an engine, and longevity of the fuel system components. There are other metrics that explain why ethanol is basically force fed to vehicle owners.
