Defective/Warped Door Panels

Postby twitte on Sat Sep 07, 2019 1:45 pm

Anyone have their door panels pop up/warp due to improper glue used at the Porsche factory combined with heat? It appears to be a common problem for certain models/years. Solutions or fixes? This was discussed briefly on page 126 "2014 Cayman: Warped Door Panels" in the August 2019 Panorama. Also lots of discussion on various Porsche websites. Dealer wants about $3K to fix both doors (replace door panels with new parts).

Update 10/9/19:

Porsche agreed to split the cost with me (my car was out of warranty) so they just installed 2 new door panels and the cost was about $1100. They look great.

An alternative that I found out about on Planet 9 was Pedro Bonilla at PedrosGarage in Odessa Florida. He fixes these door panels in about 2 days and the cost is between $150-$250 per panel depending on the actual damage. They have been fixing these door panels since around 2007 (in the 987). What’s the latest on this? My 2013 Boxster S passenger door is starting to show delamination. About 10” of the inside top edge has lifted up. I’ve heard that’s not actually the first sign of this problem because original adhesive failure begins inside (hidden from view) and eventually shows up on the outside edge. I’ve heard of Pedro’s Garage and it sounds like he does good work, but you have to package and ship your door panels to Florida. Is there anyone in Southern California that does good 981 or similar timeframe Porsche door delamination repair? Does anyone have experience with 1 (714) 322-8870 Prestige Auto Upholstery in terms of making this repair? Have you made a DIY repair? While long out of warranty any chance a local dealer would make a Good Will warranty replacement of both door cards/panels? The car has only 13.5K miles on it. I think new panels cost $2.5K each. Thank you.
