2008 Time Trial Schedule?

SO...how many (SDR) timetrialers are out there ? :?: We should hear from all of us. My .02 cents is we have two timed runs a weekend. One on sat and one on sun. Use the best lap time of your "last two scheduled" sessions. This way you can PEAK both dayz  . Jack and Robert are very good about getting 4-5 sessions a day. I think this might make for a better sunday. Now I'm broke.

Now, why would you want to lose to me 'twice' in one weekend Dave??

I'll agree, I think its worth at least trying that format. I prefer the 2 lap anticipation, but I am up for something new next year. Do we have enough TT'ers on this board to setup a Poll?

Dan Chambers: you weren't at BW but there was plenty of time for people (instructors included) to get cars ready for the timed runs as we combined the runs groups into two practice groups for the last session.

Mike you're right with the transponders. It shouldn’t matter who’s on the track unless someone spins or has mechanical issues to impede your run.

As a TT'r I would like to see timed runs and points awarded for both days.

I'd like to start TT in 08 and in looking at the dates, April 4-6 at Calspeedway would be a Friday, Saturday, Sunday. Is that a typo or is there a 3 day TT at this venue?

Good question.

At a smaller SDR TT a big benefit to timing the last couple of run sessions on both days is that you can use a different track configuration each day.

There is not as much flexibility when a TT is married to a club racing event. You can expect to run the same track configuration all 3 days.

But at the last POC Speedway infield TT event they did time both days as separate events.
Fine by me, kinda fun to see who gets it first and then later who got it best.
Peak twice. :D

My vote for the poll: I'd like to see timed runs on both days. Could be interesting and if it works, great. If not, we can always go back to how it is now.

I'll vote for the last 2 sessions on Sat. being your best time. Which gives you plenty of laps for clean air, mistakes i.e- tires, offs, low on fuel ;) ect..ect.. Then run the standard (fastest on down) format for Sundays

David, sorry I missed a great TT with lots of time to get to cars. DARN! FWIW: I've seen combined run-groups on Sundays at the other TT's I've done ... pretty much every one I've done. (That didn't make my Saturday any easier.  ) I wonder why Red drivers had so much trouble getting to grid? Any ideas?

Sounds like you guys had great fun, and no rush, rush. BW is my favorite track. How many drivers were there?

Timed runs at the end of each day would be very interesting. I'd be up for checking that out.

Re the references to POC:

As to POC Time Trials, we have always done traditional 2 lap Time Trials and intend to continue this in 2008.
Cup Race Qualifying has changed to the TT format (a warmup lap, followed by 2 timed laps)to make it posible for Racers to use their Qualifying times as TT times (if they paid to TT)
Starting in 2008, we will be doing 2 Time Trials per week-end: one on Sat. and one on Sun.

Hi John,
I was sharing my experiance this year at Cal Speedway infield event with the POC STS. At that event they scored your best lap in any of the last 3 sessions of each day. No two lap time trial format that weekend.
Curious, what format is used at the POC STS SOW events?

A downside for the format is to students. I generally spend Saturday mostly instructing, always having someone in the passenger seat or riding with people. If all sessions, or really any on Saturday, are for 'time', the amount of ride alongs and instructing will be greatly reduced.

I generally get pretty close to my best time by
the second or third run session (okay, maybe
that means I suck the rest of the weak-end).
Fontana, though a three-day event, does not
offer as much track time per day, but still
I seem to not get a lot of improvement over
the weekend.

Some people can only show up one day, so having
two days mean two different events hurts them.
What I would like to see is running different
track configurations on Saturday and Sunday
at venues where this is possible (Spring Mtn,
Buttonwillow, Streets). We'd time these as two
different events on the different days. To me
that offers more variety - a greater number of
"different" tracks to run in one year.
