Looks like a chance of rain. How would this track be in the wet?

We had an inch of rain on Saturday last November for the AX at Fairplex and it was very wet. Big fun though because It was a 5 hour skidpad exercise and I was caught going backwards more than once. Those that participated had a great time. As with the recent Buttonwillow TT, if you stay home you might miss the most fun event of the Zone 8 TT series. :D

This week looks like a 30% chance of showers Fri/Sat so I don't expect much serious rain. Anything is possible in November though so I am bringing both sets of tires. I'll see you guys in the big left sweeper.

Sounds fun!

Here's one...but not at Pomona. It's Don Yenko in a '61 Vette.

I ran last year in the rain, it was FREEZING in the morning and not a lot of fun... but once we started driving it was an absolute blast!!! Last year was an AX style event on Saturday but even then everyone got in as many laps as they could handle, especially at the end of the day when most people had pulled up stakes and headed home. I actually quite early because I was tired from driving so much (and stopping backwards just a few feet short of a chain link fence shook my nerves).
I hope to see some familiar faces this weekend.

Last day to register if you wanna play!

With about 100 drivers signed up for this event the grid is pretty full on Sat, but only 31 drivers are coming Sunday so lots of open track time then. Leave your cool suit home and bring your woolies cause it is going to be pretty cold (40-55F). Rain is possible with a 20-30% chance so prepare for it. I am bringing both sets of tires.

The re-designed course map that avoids those nasty high speed bumps looks good. If you are already signed up you should get a copy in your email. This should be lot of fun! :burnout:

Much better than June. Not soaked, freezing, and super bumpy. I had a blast!

Another great TT weekend. Thanks for coming out to play with us.

Saturday weather was clear and cool making for perfect driving conditions. Sunday the rain finally showed up just as we were doing the timed runs. I was changing tires and got to the grid late. By then the track was pretty wet with some standing water so I got slaughtered. So goes racing. After timed runs we went back out and took a few sessions just playing in the rain. Moving from good grip to full hydroplane and back to good grip at speed is an interesting sensation.

It was an excellent tire test. Street tires offer a pretty amazing amount of grip and control in the wet when compared to R-comps.

Couple of videos - one with a student in the dry, and another of rainy Timed Laps (laps means swimming lengths of a pool - right?)
on our DeadPetsRacing website;

Dave:

That was a lot of fun - thanks. Was this a Zone 8 Time Trial, or just a regional GPX event?

While we are posting videos, I got some too.
http://contour.com/stories/november-2012-pomona-de-2--2

I overheated my brakes the first session, so the rest of the day I took it pretty easy to make sure I stayed on the track. I was fortunate to have Loren Beggs (Rennsport Group 7 Winner) ride with me in my car. He gave me some great pointers on the track which paid off in much higher speeds on the front straight and onto the longest straight (by the chain link fence). I had a great time and clocked roughly 100 track miles over the course of the day!
