If you look at their calendar, it's not EVERY Sat and Sun (but a lot of them). I guess we better get on the stick for the remaining open days, or it's "Hello SE lot"...

Unfortunately, I would guess the open days are for "Major Stadium Events" and area already taken :surr:

Russell, my guess is, Greg has it correct. Like Feb. 22-24, that weekend is the big three swap meet.

There may be a few other dates left for all the clubs to go for. I guess we'll see what happens.

Or, "Hello big track" since there are plenty of folks that don't even show up for SE lot events because it is too small for them. An alternative would be for us all to go buy karts...that will make the SE lot feel like the West lot :banghead:

And, what about the PDS...we can't do a full PDS in the SE lot!

Where was the consideration for the car clubs when this deal got made? With a half dozen clubs competing for 1/4 of the previously available weekend dates, we will be lucky to get 2 autox events and one PDS event reserved, it appears.

There is no way they need to close the west lot for this market. They could have located it on the SE side instead and left the west lot open. It looks like a done deal now, and I would guess it will be hard to change their plans, as I'm sure contracts have been signed and obviously publicity has been put out, etc. The published parking plan definitely makes the west lot unuseable for an autox, and I don't think that's necessary. I don't see why they couldn't have limited the vendor and visitor parking to just the part of the west lot south of the trolley tracks, like they do for the Jr. Dragster events, plus the spaces outside the fence around the stadium itself on either side of the market area. I seriously doubt they need as much parking as they have reserved according to the published map.

Image

We have one of the largest farmer's markets in SD each Sunday here in La Jolla, and people come and go all morning--there isn't any dedicated parking at all and I doubt there are more than 100 cars at any one time parked in the street spaces for several blocks around the site. These markets are local events and they are already held all over the city--there isn't going to be a huge crowd driving from all over town to attend this market. The planned parking is overkill. Hopefully, the economics of renting so much space will prove to be unfeasible for the promoters, and they will reconsider the logistics.

Heck with a boycott, I think a picket line is in order!

I just saw that they charge $5 admission ($4 if you buy online). I just hope that there aren't enough folks who are interested in paying to get into "a European style open air market offering the best blend of an Art Walk – Street Fair – Food Fest – Antiques & Collectibles Show – and Certified Farmers Market" to make it viable. All our local farmer's markets are free!

While there's clearly a short-term problem here whose solution is not yet clear, what about the long-run issue? Qualcomm will not be available forever anyway, so has there been any thought about other local sites for AXs in the future (not that I can think of any as big as the Q).

Maybe folks would pay to see a "European style...etc" with an auto race thrown in, like the Monaco grand prix. A few K-rails to allow room for spectators around the sides, shrink the track just a little, and there we go. They could inspect the cars early, bet on their favorites (with several official timing periods, not just the end), and pay for taste of the track at lunch. Might draw more people to their market than organic vegetables alone. And a new revenue stream for the club.

Even if we DO get to use the lot once in a while, the surface is likely to be so full of nails, spikes, etc as to be unusable.
A concerted campaign by ALL car clubs together to move the fair parking to the southeast lot may be the only answer. But that probably won't fly either, as the noise of our beloved cars will surely offend the oh-so-organic at the fair. :banghead:

Hey Fireball, when you say "we", does that mean you've got another engine "upgrade" for your Boxster

No, that's the "Royal We".

Besides two feet pushing through the floorboards, I'm looking at another 3.2 or 3.4, a 2.5 (not just the engine, the WHOLE CAR), or for a little bit more, maybe a Toyota with a Subaru engine in it...
