Gary - You have been modifying that Targa a step at a time. Go big, imagine it as a speedster. A simple weekend project with my new favorite tool the saws-all!!

Pete, I found out the hard way that cars and sazalls don't mix. A very unfortunate VW was the victum.

TT: are those, in fact, pirated pic's of the '68 project you plan to run in FS/GP? Looks menacing. I think I'll move over to 944Spec . I don't think i'll be within .34 seconds of that thing :surr:

No, the car I'm building is a very sedate 911R clone, and due to the transplant of a stock '83 911SC 3-liter engine, it won't qualify for FS class, it will definitely be an FP car. However, due to the lack of any real competition in FP, I just may have to move it up to the GP class to have someone to run against. :D

Be very afraid, Dan-o! 944-Spec will look awfully good to you by then, I think.

 Cr@P! By then?? I'm fixing my reg forms now!

Well, I guess I should take it as a compliment that you'd want some "real competition" in GP. But with higher HP (What's the 3-L got ..... 165, 170 HP? :surr: ) and lower weight (let me guess: 2300 Lbs with you in it? :grr: ) .... you're gonna be in the pits with cold tires and a beer to match while I'm still trying to figure out how to navigate the slaloms. :beerchug: Great...... just great. I'm having flash-backs to 2004. :banghead: There is no justice....

The SC was rated by the factory at 180HP, but since exhaust is free in everything but SS class, I have already added the headers and sport muffler that should take it up to a little over 200, with Steve G's magic CIS tuning tricks. It's not all about the HP, though. The low-end torque is so much better than the 2-liter S motor it's ridiculous--the car should get out of those slow 2nd gear corners MUCH better than my '67S. :D

lower weight (let me guess: 2300 Lbs with you in it?
Not quite. The factory curb weight for this model was 2271 lbs., so I will have to ballast it up to 2221, without driver (but with full gas tank, spare, toolkit and jack), as I can't take any more points for weight reduction or I would be in FI class. I figure about 2370 with driver, in race trim with only 1/4 tank of gas for timed runs. It will be pretty much optimized for FP with 20 points (12 for the motor, 4 for tires, 4 for oversize T-bars and ARBs.) It should be a few seconds faster than my old GS car.

Tom:

That's hillarious!! 2370 Lbs. (Oh.. I was off by 70 Lbs ... oh darn!) and 200-HP (darn ... off by 35 HP - too low) ! :roflmao: :roflmao: :roflmao: :roflmao: Hate it when I'm wrong.

Okay  ....... so; my 944 will be weighing in at at a trim 3100Lbs with driver :bigcry: , and my HP is ... somewhere around 139 to 145 (haven't dyno'ed since the top-end rebuild) .... I'd say with a ratio of 22.14 Lbs. to 1-hp in my car vs. your 11.85 Lbs. to 1-hp ratio  ...(Oh: that's nice.... almost twice the HP in Lbs/ratio formula) .... and with almost the same tire size/stickiness .... and suspension mod's requisit to performance driving (and don't even try to bs me about your running 1968 original stock suspension systems. :nono: I might have been born yesterday, but it wasn't last night. PLEASE! ).... we should definitely be in equal cars in the same class. NOT! :surr:

So... why do you think it was requested, and the rules changed so that 911's be moved to H or I class? Hmmmm  .... tough one. :nono:

Enjoy GP class ..... by yourself. (I've got enough second-place ribbons .... thanks to you.) If I'm gonna compete, I'd just assume compete against cars that are at least close to one another in performance spec's. :beerchug: The 944Spec class is just a little more equal to my boat, than your "FP/GP" car. :burnout: Move over Jackie, John, Chuck/Debbie, Tim .... you've got company 8)

See you all on Saturday.

I thought that would wind you up pretty well! Judging from the number of emoticons in your message, I've got you jumping up and down like a circus monkey on a hotplate now! :D

Dan Chambers wrote: ...(Oh: that's nice.... almost twice the HP in Lbs/ratio formula)

Well, it's not all about hp/weight, you've got that superior 944 handling going for you, after all--better than a Z06, right? :?

Dan Chambers wrote: So... why do you think it was requested, and the rules changed so that 911's be moved to H or I class?
Lemme guess....Because the 944s were so slow?? Isn't G supposed to be a faster class than F? I think they should have left the 911s alone and just moved the 944s down to C class... No, then you'd have those pesky 90 HP 914s and 912Es to deal with... Maybe they should be put into B-class. No one's using that letter right now! :D

Don't worry, it's all just smack talk at this point. It will be quite awhile until I get this car out on the track at the rate I'm going on the project right now. You're safe in GP for a few more months...

Abssolutely! And, I know all the goodies bolted on won't be able to catch your superior driving skills. The bolt-ons are just 50% of the equation. So ... any chance I can get a cornering lesson from "Mr. BRI"?

Cute. But in my own defense, I have been able to nick the F-class 911's ........ lately. Just ask Mr. Burch   (But, dumping thousands of clams into the water bucket to gain that recognition borders on the insanity of lusting for that all-powerful $1.39 ribbon at the end of the day.)

..... about the time I start stripping out my tub, get a set of 15" wheels with RA-1's, adopt some goofy/wanna-be-a-race-driver looking blue stripes down the middle of my car .... like Mark's F.'s bucket......., and generally ruin the comfort and quiet of an entry level touring car that was never intended for the track. I think we're on about the same time-line, Tom.

BTW: will it rain this weekend?? :bigcry: :banghead:

The Weather Channel is giving it a 60% chance of showers at the moment. Our autox schedule seems to have an uncanny ability to attract frontal passages.

Speaking of frontal passages  , I have to give Dan :roflmao: credit. His $25,000  944 has started to come around and maybe his driving has improved, maybe. But, The year is young.

Bring your $2 panchos.
