And a big thank you from the autocross chairs to all the volunteers who stepped up and helped when we were short handed and trying to run without a lot of our regular help. Everyone really jumped in, and it's a good thing, since our attendance was about double what we expected. We had 85 drivers. We would have been clearly swamped without the generous help of so many people. Pat yourself on the back for a job well done. This was something of an experiment running the event on a weekday and inviting another club. It seemed to work out very well on both accounts. Thanks to everyone who attended and to everyone who pitched in and helped.

I had a great time as well, and really appreciate the opportunity for a no-points, other-car, test-and-tune type event. I hope we can do more of them, but then I'm retired and a non-weekend event works fine for me. I think the BMW club guys really liked it too. The turnout was surprisingly large and I thought the course was great--really fast in places and good flow in the slower parts, although the finish was pinched pretty tight and a lot of people had trouble hitting cones there. The swale crossing was routine with the new asphalt patches. It's nice to see the stadium putting some money into lot repairs, even though it may be going "bye-bye!"

I too enjoyed a no points day. It allowed me to really play with tire pressures to try and see what might work.... and now this week is only a 4 day work week! (of course, last week was a 6 day week but I've forgotten that already)

I guess I am advancing in my driving skills now as I had NO TROUBLE hitting many cones at the finish. YEEE HAWW!

One of the BMW guys commented on the abuse our cones have taken. He said their cones were orange and ours seemed to be mostly black.

I have done a number of BMW events and helped set the course and clean up after. Their cones are well abused. If their cones were any more abused we'd have to call the cone abuse society.

Were there any results posted for this event? I read on another message board that a BMW driver came in and took TTOD? Any truth to that?

There were no results kept from the event, AFAIK. I am pretty sure a BMW driver did not take TTOD, as I took the sportsracer out and ran two sessions in the morning, getting down to a low 1:12 without even getting too crazy with it. I never saw any of the other cars turn lower than a 1:14 in the morning, but I left for the afternoon sessions, as the car was running hot.

There was a fast M5, stripped, with a big wing, that was pretty quick. Maybe he got down lower in the afternoon. There weren't any of the faster Porsches there, and he had the next best time that I saw in the morning. Erik Kinninger ran a 1:14 in the LP Spec Boxster, that I saw, which was as fast as the M5. If he had been driving his Dad's AM car, he would have beaten my 1:12, I am sure.

I saw the blue M3 post a low 1:12 in the afternoon, just before the timing got out of sync for the remainder of the day. That was the fastest that I saw...

I was not there, but word has it that Matthew Kogan was running his black-and-silver '92 325is running on Victoracers.....with a huge wing....and was 2nd TTOD, second apparently to Pierre in his green E36 M3, an SCCA autocross car set up for a street tire class (STU) that happened upon a set of V710s.

All unofficial. I love driving Matt's car, however, and despite being the lowliest model of the 3-Series it more than makes up for it in handling!! And chicks dig the big wing

It is very possible that the M3 I saw was green, not blue. It looked very stock from the outside, but was obviously well sorted with a very capable driver.

Sure we can whine that none of our top drivers were there or that they were in cars that weren't as fast as their normal cars, but how do we know the same isn't true for the BMW club?

Yup, and they were quite gracious while doing so. Also, their cars did not break down nearly as often as rumored. They do need to be taught how to park under the trolley tracks, though.

Maybe we can do it again some time, but keep accurate times for the top 10?
