Buttonwillow Surface

Well, the "Newly Paved" surface seemed more to me like just a coating.

There were still many places with small surface irregularities. This makes non-ABS braking difficult.

It was definitely faster than before, but not by a lot (maybe a second?).

Also, be warned that the Sweeper (the turn we'll be using instead of Star Mazda) will likely have
less traction than the rest of the track, since it doesn't get used as much (less rubber coating,
so it's still a bit slick yet).

It still is not advisable to brake on the gators, though they have pretty new paint.

For those experienced with the track, I'd guess laptimes with configuration #13 will be about
7 seconds faster than configuration #1CW, so those of you dropping under 2 minutes can get
all wiggly and piddly excited.

The "improvements" didn't elevate this track from near the bottom of my enjoyment rating,
but still I somehow managed to do decently there, and am looking forward to this weekend.

Paul, thanks for the update! Also interesting that you don't much like this track either. It is at the bottom of my list, but most people seem to really like it. See you there!

Interesting that you guys don't care for this track as it is one of my favorites (providing I stay on the track surface). It requires just the right combination of patience, technical skill, and huevos in a Boxster I guess.

One more item - Last weekend, it was really hazy all through the valley - it actually looked like a brush fire.
Plus, there could be dense fog in the mornings.

I guess one reason why Buttonwillow is lower on my favorite list of tracks is my driving style (or lack thereof). I can get a
decent lap by staying off the gators, but in order to get the most out of a lap, I feel I have to drive rough and ragged on a
track that is already rough and ragged - even with its "new surface". That's not too hard for two timed laps, but exhausting
for an old f*rt trying to win a 15 lap race (or a 33 lap enduro!).

Per the weather report this morning. Dense fog warning today until 10 am. High for both days is 67 with 0% chance of rain. Assume fog in the am for the next couple of days as well.
Also, Pay attention to the event letter and updates on track entrance today or you may be sorry.

When I woke up at the track this morning there was perfect visibility. The GTA event that's going on today started on time at 8:30 am. If this keeps up for the weekend, fog won't be an issue.
