treadwear

Postby surferr on Sun Nov 30, 2014 9:07 am

Now that the 2015 rules are posted, I have a ?? for the older.. err... more experienced drivers.

My G-force Rivals and Hankook RS-3 current tire choices have been deemed cheater tires so decisions must be made to step away from CC-01 and join the big boys in CC-02

Grip is my best asset for my low n slo 944 so I want to maximize it.

Question being:
Would my 944 be better served with 225/50 15 tires running a 140 tread wear like the Proxi R1R
or
a bit smaller patch tire, 205/50 15 with a 40 tread wear ?? the Hankook Z214.

I am running as much negative camber as allowed with out installing plates and have enough points room to add heavier springs in the front. Konis installed all around.

Any opinions are greatly appreciated. :beerchug:

The 944 spec tires, Proxes RRs, 40 treadwear, are very sticky, but in don't wear as well as the former spec tire, the RA1s. They may be more sensitive to camber adjustment also. But the best idea is to get some non-cheater street tires and stay out of Jerry's class if you can.

Ya know...
I never even thought to look at what is offered in studded tires... With how the asphalt is deteriorating at the Q your suggestion could be quite genius Jerry.

Thanks for the warning Dave, there is a reason EVERYONE says to stay the heck out of Bumpya's way or else.... so I might just jump up to CC-03 now that Adam G has slowed a bit and stay the heck away from the AX King errrrr Chair. :surr:

Oh Peter, you better be careful using my name in the same sentence as "slow" or any derivative thereof, it's a damn sure way to put a bullseye on your back.... Just because a guy has engine problems doesn't mean he has slowed down one bit. Talk about kicking a guy when he's down...geesh.

Easy Adam, who said he was talking about your driving? :)
If the hundreds of texts/emails I get from Adam are any indication all of us BRI hopefuls better get as many in the bank as possible.
Because he down, doesn't mean he is out.

I for one am trying to formulate a move from CC08 to CC07 for the little Black Forest 914.
I finally have one in the bank after many years of being eluded by the Dolphin.
It is all about keeping the trophy now.

If we got the points right for treadwear and tire size and other performance points, it should come out the same :D

Smells like competitive spirit... I like it! :beerchug:

Just remember Peter, there are no perfect rule sets and they all have strengths and weaknesses. Now that you have a clear target, develop your car to the 2015 book and choose performance mods very carefully. Jerry is probably beatable but you will have to work for it cause he is no slouch. Adam might be tougher still. Nobody finds loopholes in the law better than a good lawyer and he drives the wheels off that thing. Build your car to a class, drive every event, and get some good coaches in your right seat for your best chance. Also you can hit a couple of other Z8 AX events at OC or AZ and pick up a Zone trophy.

You could always put some big fat sticky tires on her and come up to play with the Boxster Bros in CC05.

Looking forward to 2015 driving season. :burnout:

 The Boxter brothers  I get nervous watching you guys play guitar, never mind sharing the track with you. :beerchug:

Thanks for the advice Dave, I am working the points best I can with a stock n slo 944. The tire companies are making it difficult with 80% of my 15" tire choices on back order. Not sure what the issue is with them :?:

Whatareyatalkingabout Adam :?: :?: :?: You still beat my best time at the last AX by 4 seconds and you weren't even there... :surr: sheesh
