If I only had 135 hp...
102 wild beasts to the ground for the 914!

And I would put springs on the 944, lower the rear at the spring plates and give it a serious corner balance and alignment.
Plus front sway bar braces and plastic sway bar bushings all around.

So how many points do you have left after springs?
15x7 wheels?

Give it the "Rondeau" set up. It worked for my 944.

Morning Steve
Un freaking amazing you run so quick with 102 HP..... :?

Thank you for all the tips Steve. Sounds like you've "been there done that" before. Corner balance might help, she turns in really strong to the left but not so well to the right. :?:
Yes I calculated in points for 250lb front springs and I use 15 X 7" cookie cutters all around.
After doing the math with 225/45 15 Hankook Z214 I'm just going to stay in cc-03. >>> Ordered some new CA DMV plates. "TOAST" :(

Base-Tire Size-Springs-Tread wear,,,No points left to keep my shock tower stiffener, hope it's not important.
198 40 30 80 = 348 TOTAL POINTS

I've got to focus on losing some weight since the car is heavier than a stock 944 due to the 70 pound roll bar I added. Still have working AC, stereo and everything else that the car came with. Do I really need cruise control to TT & AX ??

Thanks again for the pointers Steve

Been there in a 944 more times than I can count.
Did a bunch of 944 setups in the day when that was the AX car of choice.
Jad Duncan, Ralph Linares, John Kinkaid, Mark Rondeau all started in 944's that I had my hand into. (Good drivers can make a Mechanic look very good)
944 is still my #1 choice for someone to learn to drive in.
If you can feel a difference left to right you should get it checked out. Either corner balance, alignment or track is way off.
Should be and interesting 2015 season.

Sway bar bracing, corner balance and an aggressive alignment are crucial. Ideal set up for your car (IMHO): Run 225/50/15 RA1's, up to 350 Lb Front Springs, with matching rear torsion bars, adjustable sway bars, shock tower brace, Koni adjustable shocks, remove the cat, upgrade your brake pads and you're at 338 points. Take out weight down to 2690 lbs with full fluids and no driver and you should have a really well set up car that's fun to drive and competitive at 349 points. If you want to reduce the weight even more, get rid of the shock tower brace. They're over rated for 944's.

Thanks Mark

Looks like both of our set ups will land me in CC-03 behind cupcake and 69.

The RA1's (tw 100) and the Z214(tw40) are my biggest decision. Both are similar in $

Are the 40 treadwear tires really worth 40 points over the 100 treadwear tire ? Must be if they are double the points.... I've ridden in cars with 40 treadwear tires and they do seem to hold the pavement like glue. I have become comfortable sliding into corners with my 200 treadwear tires so adjustments will have to be learned.

I got 250# springs for the front... :banghead: I will try em and see if I need to go to 350#, It's the same amount of points. I didn't want to go with too much front spring and have it overpower my rear torsion bar's strength. :(
I can not afford the 20 points for the adjustable sway bar with the 40 treadwear tires. Back to tires....

Decisions Decisions Decisions :?:

Not really going to matter all that much since 69 and cupcake will be lapping me anyhow I set up.

Peter,

I would go with RA1's for a couple of reasons. Same money, but about 4 times the life cycle. They wear like iron and are very forgiving. They communicate well and won't leave you without warning like a fickle prom date. The Hankook's are great, but they have a much smaller window for optimum grip as well as being more sensitive to sliding and braking lock ups. The RA1's just get better until they're almost corded and a set will last you all year for AX or TT and possibly both.

You're right to stay with 250# springs until you're ready to do both ends of the car. The key is to keep it balanced. Speaking of which, once you have it aligned and corner balanced, you'll be amazed at how much easier it is to drive well.

Good luck!

I can drop to 205/45 15 RA1s and sneak into CC-02 and work on Bumbas domination... :roflmao: Lotta joy in that goal

I like this idea. Running 40tw tires really requires a lot of suspension work and negative camber to make the most out of them and prevent tire shoulder destruction at the Q. RA1s still like camber but are a better next step in the build.

Peter,

This is from the build sheet for my 1988 944S. That car was incredibly balanced and regularly finished ahead of the competition and gave quite a few "faster" cars a hard time. The car could run in CC04 to CC07 depending on tire size and tread wear rating. Most balanced 944 I've ever driven. I ran it in CC06 with great success. I know the Boxster Bros were very happy when I sold it and moved up to the 911SG.

When I bought this car, it was way out of balance and alignment. Kinda eventually turned left and immediately spun right. Did the corner balance and alignment after driving it at an AX and TT first and then just drove it for a year before making changes. When I did make changes, I consulted Steve G on every part of the set up for this car and we never had to go back and change anything.

"Suspension – Eibach 350 # front springs with adjustable spring perches, 28 mm rear torsion bars, Koni yellow adjustable shocks at all four corners, 968 MO30 front sway bar with triangulated supports, Weltmeister rear adjustable sway bar. Racer’s Edge adjustable camber plates, corner balanced and aligned."

Let me know if you'd like more info or perhaps some instruction at the track. BTW, do you get car sick easily?

Wow. Feel like I'm getting seat time and I'm not even in the car.
Mark and Dave I greatly appreciate you sharing your knowledge and experience with me.

Discount tire just called and the Hankook 225/45 15 _ Z214 are back ordered. Decision made for me. No 40 treadwear tires for me next year :|

Suspension – New 250 # front springs with Koni yellow adjustable shocks all four corners,(rears set at stiff, front usually set at 3/4 stiff but are easily adjustable) 944S front sway bar with triangulated supports, 18 mm rear sway bar. Aligned by Jae Lee a year ago. No corner balancing done, no adjustable camber plates. Jae said I will need to install some camber plates for more camber.

I think the best next step for me is to run 225/45 15 Toyo R1R (140 tw) in CC-02 = 298 points Looks like they are back ordered too. :banghead:

If I run the 205/50 15 Toyo RA1 I will have a smaller tire patch with 100 tread wear and still be able to run against Jerry Bumpya in CC-02 @ 278 pts

I do think the 205s are available and most likely will go that rout....

Ordered the 205 RA1s. Thanks for the help Dave and Mark. They aren't the 225 40tw I wanted to run on, but they are 100tw stickier than last years RS3s I ran on. Baby steps....
Better order up some new tires Jerry Bumpas I'm gunning for ya this year :)

The 200TW tire points change and the change to the free allowance for weight reductions are now implemented on the Zone 8 Car Classification site, for those who want to start fiddling with their points.

Still need to implement the revised GT3/GT2/Turbo package points and add new models (Cayennes, Panameras, Macans, and the new 991 Carrera GTS); also will be a few adjustments to a couple higher HP cars in the upper SS classes. These changes should be coming in the next couple of weeks.

(Thank you oh "Grand Zone 8 Database Elf" )

If you find some issues on the site, or have a question, email me at rules@zone8.org.

The rest of the rules changes should be up on the Z8 Car Classification website, as well as the first cut of the "4-door" Porsches for SS and CC classes.

If you happen to be pointing out your 1st gen Cayenne for a CC class and find an error in the car specs, drop me a line at Rules@Zone8.org...
