Request input/ideas for Military Car Show 6/28/15

Postby rrichardson on Mon Jan 26, 2015 10:38 pm

Hello,

As your club military liaison I am requesting your input and ideas regarding how the club should approach the upcoming Marine Corps Recruit Depot Car Classic on 6/28/15. In 2015, the Marines are expecting approximately 400 cars as this event continues to grow each year and would like to know if PCA SDR would like to participate as a club. The event will feature contests/judging by US Marines, food, music by the MCRD Band, a colors ceremony, VIP Food and Beverage area, and military vehicles on display. The event will be held on a grassy area of the MCRD base overlooking the bay.

Please respond within the next week with your input and ideas for this event so we can make sure it meets club members desires. They could arrange from no formal club event/only individuals on their own, to a large organized club presence and display of Porsches, and ????.

Also post any questions or concerns.

Airborne!

sounds like it could be an interesting show, 'specially if they have a large american muscle display. Military bases seem to "breed" muscle cars.

I'm in to be a spectator, not too interested in participating in displaying one of my cars.
why not? my personal reasons..............
1. often a car show charges entrants to bring a car to display, why? people come to see the cars and may consume the wares associated with the show. i would think car entry should be FREE (no idea if the MCRD show charges entry fee or not.)
2. early show and late departure timing............. i gotta be free man <grin>

Please remind us of the show a few weeks before the event.

Cheers

While I am not likely to be able to attend, some Club activities might warrant some posters, displays, etc with the cars to show PCA/SDR's interactions with the military in San Diego.

The Wounded Warrior tours each year - photos, stats.
Photos from the Fleet Week San Diego events - the historic races, maybe even the year we rented the whole track the day before the events?

I understand, it's a pretty nice show. I may take the '67 and just hang out.

Craig, Kim, and John, thank you for sharing your ideas. Are there any others?

To answer Craig's question, the cost of the show will be $20 for club members, General Public pricing is $25 early bird, day of: $35. At a minimum we can set up a reserved area for PCA members to park together and socialize. I like the idea of a display of photos of club events related to the military and maybe highlight some of the club members who are veterans who participate in the show.
