Les Werling in hospital.

Postby Mike on Sat Apr 04, 2015 12:01 pm

Since his car is on the cover of our monthly mag I thought some here might like to know...

Some of you know Les Werling and his car on the cover of the Witness this month.
Les is racing the Camaro right behind Ranson Webster's 73 RSR on the cover.

He appears to have hooked a wheel in T2 and in the dust cloud was t boned by a cobra.
Steve the Cobra driver is ok from what I was told.

Video of the spin.

Les's car, built by Tommy Riggins it won the Daytona 12 hr in the late 90s.

That's sad news, Mike. Hoping Les makes a full recovery. 78 and still racing hard at Big Willow is pretty amazing.

Hi John,
I did talk to him a bit the other day on the phone.
His first text back home was "I think I need a new door". 8)
He is looking forward, with hopes to race the Capri at the SVRA Sonoma event in 2 months.

You amaze me!
With the family medical issues surrounding yourself to still have so much compassion for others.
Lets do lunch again soon.

Prayers for a quick and full recovery for Monique and Les.

Thanks Mike! Monique and I got to know Les pretty well when we were coordinating the PCA Tent at Coronado for years. Neat guy, for sure...

And I would love to go to lunch again, and promise to get to work on the image on you at the last Coronado race.

Les standing over his race car in his shop last week.
It was his first day back at the shop, looking over his Camaro.
I told him to hydrate, nap, go to garage, repeat. :D

Les is doing very well.
He is swapping his Panoz race car for a Cobra street car.
Selling the Camaro race car.
He would like to continue to race his Lyn St Jame's Capri.
Perhaps for his 79th birthday at the Coronado race on base this fall? :D :D :D

All that and a ride in Tom Tweed's new Gt3 made for a perfect week.

Great to hear that Les is doing so well, Mike. I expect to be down at Coronado this fall and hope to meet both you and Les down there.

Ride in TT's GT3... Priceless!
