The Return.

Buttonwillow. My first big track experience. Fear, excitement, anticipation. That was a few years back.

The return to Buttonwillow last weekend had all the same elements. Fear ... that Carl would kick my b*tt in my own car, excitement ... having waited all year with a car set-up I'd worked on all year, anticipation ... of driving one of my favorite big tracks and for the first time and not pointing by every single car in my run group.

My expectations were all met and happily exceeded. The surface was beautiful. The car ran flawlessly. Carl hit the brakes just before the checkered flag and bought me a tenth of a second (thanks, Carl), the old friends from big track days past were there and still remembered who the tall bald guy was. Ron Trotter rented me a beautiful trailer, which made for a very comfortable trip. All in all: a perfect driving weekend.

Huge credit and thanks to Robert B. and Jack M. for a perfectly run event (as always). Thanks to Steve G. for showing me the "little wire" trick. Couldn't have started without that. And Kudos to everyone who drove safe, and returned with cars and bodies intact.

Now .... where'd I leave that muffler?

I'd like to piggyback off of Dan's comments and thank the SDR Time Trial folks. I had a great weekend and got to feel like a big shot hangin' out with the big kids on the "big track". (Thx Dad for the Gulf-mobile keys) Also, thanks to Steve E. for the hours of seat time and instruction I was so lucky to have. Glad everyone was safe and there was even good weather. Looking forward to more fun next year.

Here's the in-car view during timed-runs.

True. But, since I caught the very last car for timed runs, everyone working the track would have had to wait for "the whiner in the Black Car" to get his re-runs. I might have shaved a couple of tenths ... not likely ... and the "fun factor" would not have changed one bit. So, why worry about one last lap when the entire weekend was so great? Besides, with Carl hitting the brakes so hard just before the checkered flag, I didn't need to work too hard to best him. :roflmao:
