How many points should I take for a 3.2 engine swap in a 74?

How many points should I take, when classing my car for autocross, for swapping the original 2.7 to a stock 3.2 motor from an '84 911?
Thanks for the input.

If the motor you are swapping in is all stock (not modified), then the points are determined by section III. L of the Driving Event Rules.

You determine the HP of the new engine according to it's Type # and subtract the HP of the original engine for your '74 according to it's Type #, and determine the point penalty for the modification according to the delta between them. Without knowing which motor you have in your '74 and which Carrera 3.2 you are swapping in, I can't tell for sure, but you are liable to have either 12 or 16 points from the swap-worst case would be 20. If the HP delta is more than 50, it is 16 points. 50 or less, and it is 12 points. If you have the 165 HP US-spec 2.7 911S engine in your car and swap in the 207 HP US-spec Carrera 3.2 engine, for instance, it would be 12 points (207-165=42 HP.) If you have the 150 HP 2.7 and swap in a 217 HP '87-89 3.2, it would be 16 points (217-150=67 HP.) If you used the 231 Euro version of the 3.2, you could go as high as 20 points, as that would be an 81 HP delta from a stock 150 HP, and the next cutoff is 75 HP difference.

2 points for track width

Postby kepster on Mon Apr 10, 2006 9:22 pm

If I have a turbo look body kit on my car, should I take 2 points for increase in track width or is that covered by the 4 points I take for my oversized tires?
Thanks for the clarification on the engine and the link to the rules, ttweed

I answered your question in the separate thread you posted on the turbo-look issue here, but thought I would repeat it in this thread for those who might not see the other one:

Yes, if the track is widened more than 2" from stock (for the original model of car) you must take 2 points for track increase as well as any points for wider tires (and for tire compound, if applicable.)
