Martin,

This "I need new tires" is getting old. I hope you plan on having new tires for Fontana. No excuses, just hold your line and let the cup cars pass you like the rest of us. It will fun to watch the KI battle continue at Fontana.

Hey, I resemble that remark!

Yeah, I guess I better shell out some money for tires and brake pads. I ordered RA/1's for Fontana from Byran Shackelford's Toyo's Only Company.

I have no intention of letting anyone pass me

Martin,

It's time for the new tires. Even your wife was telling you to get them. How much more support do you need? How many wives would tell their husband to spend money on tires for the track? You're one lucky guy. Now mount those new tires and lets see your skills on good tires at a great track. Only 2 weeks to go, I can't wait. We're going to have soooo much fun. :)

Jad, you are so right that we have very nice people in the club. There were many nice new members on Sunday too!

David, I completely agree w/ you about the tires and thanks for the compliment! :)

While I appreciate Martin wanting to get the most - and sometimes beyond the most - from his tires, I also have to see him after the driving events. He is much more fun to be around when he wins, or at least feels it wasn’t a mechanical or parts problem that contributed to the loss. We actually had his rears off the night before the AX to change them to better ones, but he stopped, put them back on, all the while grumbling something about tires costing him $200.00 per half hour of use.

On another important note, I used Bob Brand’s old rear tires this weekend and now have a taste for ‘better’ tires w/ more tread and less heat cycles. I felt more secure because the car was not sliding around as is often the case. It may be worth selling off some jewelry to buy tires for the Boxster! I’ll have to think about it. Hmmm - diamonds or rubber? 2 cars worth of new tires is too much.

Or, better yet - I’ll just have to learn how to drive Martin’s car w/ that RSR clutch! He has kindly offered me that option. Anybody have any advice on the best way to learn how to shift that thing in to 1st? My few attempts at it have been pretty sad. Perhaps, starting off downhill would be easier to practice? I hope some of you nice members have some good pointers!

Jennifer,

In regards to driving Martin's car with the RSR clutch, do what the old violin teacher said. Practice, Practice, Practice. I'm sure you can get it after a few starts. Find a deserted road or parking lot on a Sunday and do 10 or 20 starts with no one around. get it rolling, do a shift into 2nd and stop. Repeat as needed. I'll bet you get good at it in 10 minutes or less. :)

It definitey was a fun day. Special KUDOS to the 2007 AX team for handling a large crowd and doing it efficiently in the face of a significant timing equipment collision. The day went really well and all the 914, 944 and Boxster drivers were really happy with the twisty course. Keeping the BAR closed until the trailer was loaded seemed like a very successful approach and helped to get everyone home earlier.
Maybe I can get a volume tire deal with Martin now that Janet is driving. With Jim Duncan teaching her how to spin the GT3, I think I'm going to need lots of tires this year.
We do have a great club of wonderfully generous people and for that we should all be thankful.
