The first time I drove in Australia I discovered two interesting "auto-cop" devices used: the first one is a large steel "doughnut" or "cap" placed in intersections of residential neighborhoods and it prevents people from "cutting" a corner too tightly ( ... kinda like those jerks who cut corners and make you slam on your brakes to avoid hitting their headlights ....). It makes drivers "late apex" a corner, properly slowing and staying on their own side of the road. If you drive over it, you'll definitely spill your Starbucks ... maybe even get a new muffler.

It's very effective, and no one seems to complain.
The other phenomanon is the "photo enforcement/radar" used on the freeways. Between Brisbane and Surfer's Paradise the speed fluctuates between 100-KPM and 110-KPM on the freeway. Where ever there is a photo-enforcer there is a sign posting "Photo enforcement ahead" and then in about a 1/4 mile there's the box and camera.
Funny thing about driving that section: everyone is going the same speed. Since everyone is going the same speed, they spread out between cars, they don't "dive, shuffle, dart" or do any other "cleaver moves" to get ahead of you. And, probably the most interesting of all: they
plan ahead because they know they can't "make up time" on the road.
Jeez ..... those Aussie's are
really stupid!
