Driving Suits

It's about time to be a real race car driver or at least look like one and get rid of the jeans and long sleeve tshirt and buy a driving suit. Any recommendations on the minimal SFI rating I should be looking for?

Check the rules book for sure. I have a triple layer suit which I believe means I don't have to wear nomex underwear. I'm sure that's why I bought the triple layer suit but that was a couple of years ago so I'd check with the current rules. JMC motorsports has several suits in stock and you can try them on to see what size fits best.

OG racing also has a big selection and some good prices. You need to decide what kind of racing you want to do and pick a suit from that. The better the fire protection the hotter the suit. Considering most of our TT's are in 90+ degree weather, a great suit in the garage is less protection than a lessor suit that you actually wear.

Not sure about SFI. But you should really look into a Stand21. They are more expensive than most, but from what I've read and seen they are worth the extra money. I will be getting one once my Sparco expires.

They are also the official clothing supplier for Porsche so you can get the Porsche logo on your wearables.

From the 2007 Zone 8 rulebook:
"Drivers in all Modified and higher classes and Open Cars are required to wear approved driving suits, gloves, shoes and socks. Leather top athletic shoes, leather gloves and cotton socks may be worn. If a driving suit is worn (whether required or not), the specifications are as follows:
1. SFI 3-2A/5 Two or three layer suit, or
2. SFI 3-2A/1 or SFI 3-2A/3 With the use of Nomex or Proban underwear, or
3. Any FIA approved suit."

If you run with other groups, check their requirements also.
