I don't know how you did shifted so smoothly with that cast on, particularly the shift to 3rd in the slalom.

It looks like you are flat out from the 3rd slalom cone through the right hand sweeper and still manage to keep the car to the right for entry to the left hander at the end of the sweeper.

I could never get the sweeper speed adjusted correctly so I didn't drift out to much to the left side of the track and thus screwed up the entry to that left hander.

Bob,
I think it's the SC's perfect balance of power and stick. I tried that in a JSS Carrera and couldn't make it safely. Your car is just too fast there.

Thanks, Bob. Many Instructors I had in the past (Grosekemper being one of them) kept saying you only need 3 fingers to shift smoothly. Well the video kinda proves that, since I only had 3 fingers to work with! The biggest challenge was down-shifting to 2nd. I pretty-much used 2nd gear for the whole rest of the track, high rev's notwithstanding.

Yes, I was flat-out in 3rd gear there. I think Steve is right: the power/weight/stick quotient in my SC is perfect for wide-open throttle sweepers like that one. More power or torque and I'm sure I would have drifted too far to the left ... out of the good line.

Steve: thanks for the compliments. The cast came off at 11:30 today, so I now have no excuses. :( I'll just have to work harder at finding that half-second or so you have on me. (Ha! :roflmao: Who am I kiddin'.) Steve, you should bring out the cab. It's a great benchmark for the rest of us to try and achieve. Just get some 225 RA-1's like the rest of us, will ya?

Thanks for the fun, all!

Among many other places I ran out of talent, besides the sweeper, was the shift to 3rd in the slalom.

My car hit the rev limiter in second just before the slalom's last 2 cones (the ones Dan shifts neatly between when the car is settled) I could not find a spot to shift where I wasn't doing steering corrections and a shift would have upset the car. Besides, I can't shift and steer precisely at the same time, so I short shifted and lost acceleration.

I can't rub my head and belly at the same time either

Hey Dan, Nice driving, I swear you could almost be drinking a cup of tea with your two finger driving style

Since you posted your video, I thought I would share mine going flat out half way thru the slalom :D, but I lost time everywhere else.

The camera work is great! The picture in picture thing is better than some networks manage. You just need some back lighting in the car so the gauges and footwork are easier to see!

I am beginning to regret missing that event, but sleeping in and spending time with the family was very nice as well.

This was only my 6th ax at the Q, but so far, this track was definitely the most fun. I'll join the chorus and suggest that we do this one again, hopefully before year-end.

And to Martin, that in-car video w/ the PIP is very cool. Thanks for posting

Jad, you did miss a good one. I actually think this was more of a 944/968/986/914 kind of track. I drove the SC like my old 944, with pretty good results .... all about carrying speed and using the cornering to scrub speed.

I think you would have been spooled up for much of the track. Maybe then someone would have reeled in the BillEye. Poor Kp/KI didn't know what hit 'em. Atta boy, Bill/Tami!

Martin: nice footage! After watching your video, I'm a little happier with my performance. BTW: I was sipping my tea with the left hand; finger extended! You just couldn't see it.

I'll vote for that track again! I think it was David Kochanek's best track ever, and he has drawn some good ones. Congratulations, David, on a wonderful track.

Bill I. :never formally introduced, but I have to say that was one of the most awesome displays of driving a 968 in an AX event I've ever witnessed. I'm aware of your skill from the numerous TTOD finishes, but WOW, I was standing on the sidelines and your entourage is up there with Erik K. when you crossed the finish line.

KUDOs: That was one fine lap in the water pumper.

Thanks for the kind words. Us water leakers need all the respect we can get. :D The 968 is a great car. If I was able to wring more power out of the motor like the 6 cylinder / turbos can it would be really tough to beat. Driving the 968 is like most 944's, the secret is not to let it slow down.
