interesting, a few thoughts:

1. spec racing create close proximity, tight racing because of engines, brakes being equal, driver take chances to get ahead...not the norm in racing.

2. Club rules minimize people doing stupid things, if the club has rules.

3. Many of these drivers are doing stupid things they should not be doing...inexperience and #1 above cause these accidents.

4. Inexpereinced drivers are constantly out of shape or spinning...causes these accidents.

Fun video to watch though :)

Kary-
You forgot "huge fields of cars" as well--often 50-70 cars in that class. There were 61 entrants at the 2006 SCCA Runoffs. Here's what happened at T2:

That looked like a mini Nascar race. A little bumping and grinding going on.

That looked more like the I-5  Maybe they should wrap those cars in bubble wrap

This is why we 944spec racers refer to them as "Flying Miata's" .

The more I see of this type of "racing format", the more I like the PCA Time Trial format.

I never knew Miata's were developed as DORC's. (Disposable Other Race Car).
