A place to hang out and discuss all things Porsche.

This also came in, a lot of people are thinking about San Diego members.

Please keep us posted, as we all enjoyed the San Diego Parade and I, like others, made some new friends out there.

Hi all,
Yes, unfortunately I can confirm that we are now "Rancho Santa Fe Refugees" - our house was one of several that burned in the Rancho Del Rio mesa on Monday. :(
We evacuated safely - we got our pets out (and the Porsche) and are staying with Marian's mother in her large home in Kensington.
We are now looking for an apartment in the La Jolla area to live in for the next 9-18 months while we rebuild.
Thank you for all the support we have seen. At this point I don't think there is anything we urgently need.

If anyone does know of a nice apartment (or house) for rental/lease for 9-18 months in the La Jolla/Golden Triangle area, please e-mail us at kim@thecrossers.net. We are looking for a 2+ bedroom, 2+ bath apartment that will take pets - a cat and a very small (7 lbs.) dog (the cat is bigger than the dog). A couple of key items - non-smoking, fairly new, all built-ins, and quiet (i.e. not student housing). We are looking at the Archstone apartments by Gilman and Villa La Jolla as one possibility - if anyone knows about these (good or bad), please let us know.

Thank you again for the support we have received. It won't be fun, but we will get through this ok. :)

Very sorry for your loss, Kim. If Monica and I can help you (or anyone else) in any way, please let us know. We have room for people, pets (except horses), and vehicles (on-street) at our Clairemont home.

Be safe, all.

Steve Swinton also lost his home in Poway.
Total loss along with a 997S and 964.
I have his RSA here waiting for parts...

They are in good spirits (No surprise if you know Steve) and are in alternate housing.

It was close but the Schroeders are OK

Just got off the phone with Rikki and they are in Hawaii following all of this with concern. They express their sympathies with everyone touched by the fire, especially Kim Crosser.

The kids and some friends were able to evacuate all the small birds leaving only a couple of large birds they were not able to catch but are fine. The '67 911S is also safe :). Their own home was on a front line and there is burned vegetation and some fire retardant on their property edge. Fortunately the winds shifted in time to allow the choppers to drop or the entire street may have been lost.

My home in Poway was skirted but in no danger. Since the worst is past here, I have room outside for up to 5 vehicles if necessary, just let me know. 858-212-6773

Anyone heard from Ron Mistak? He's in Fallbrook, no? I heard they lost 200+ houses up there in the Rice Canyon fire.

I am so sorry for Kim & Steve. If anybody needs it, I have 2 acres with plenty of room for trailers in the Eucalyptus Hills area of Lakeside. I have been hesitant to offer because of the danger of the fires coming down here. It seems we are safe. If you need it. E-mail me at videpost@aol.com

Fire updates Ron, Chris and Gary

Postby Bev on Thu Oct 25, 2007 1:03 pm

Vince spoke with Ron Mistak today. He and the family are fine, looks like the house made it and they might move back in tomorrow.

I spoke with Chris a few minutes ago and they are fine. He and Jen were not evacuated - they are in Escondido now.

Gary Peterson and family are fine and moving back into RSF this afternoon.

I am saddened to hear of the losses experienced by several of our members. I had to evacuate with my 47 cats and found people in Aguanga who would take us in. After driving for 4 hours up I-5 and over the Ortega Highway, the Bonita evacuation was cancelled and I-15 was reopened. VERY scary, but all is well here. I start counseling at the Recovery Center in Rancho Bernardo on Saturday.

I too am grateful that so many people were spared by the fire, saddened by the loss of personal property of Kim, Steve and so many others. We took in Greg and Katherine Smith Monday morning. (San Pasqual Valley)Got out all the animals and Porsches and they returned home Tues night. Fire came within 200 yards of their home. Jim Binford was also evaced in Fallbrook and has returned now to his place. So is it too late to turn some of our charity money slated for year end to assist some of our own with fire loss/damage? PCASDR and San Diego in general has shown immense integrity in helping each other. Despite the devastation, I'm proud to be a San Diegan, even if I do live in Vista!

I say have a Fish-Taco Pot-Luck Installation Dinner and use the Hotel Del money for a Fire-Victim's Fund. 8)
