Can two people share the same transponder in the same car? I'm going to be doing my first Time Trial and sharing a car with another driver who has a transponder.

No, you both need a transponder. They are used for timing, run groups and other things so that each driver needs their own.

You can rent them from the club if you don't have another one.

That's not exactly right (but I appreciate the attempt by Jad to answer). Here's the official scoop:

- We strongly prefer that each driver have their own transponder. It's good for you as a driver as it ensures accuracy and it saves a ton of time for Timing personnel.

- However, if a two driver car has a single hardwired transponder on it, then two drivers may share that transponder subject to the caveat that each driver must drive in their own assigned run group (this is always true, regardless of the transponder situation, but unapproved switching causes even more grief when sharing a transponder). No switching for any reason is allowed. If you'd like to switch, you must come see Timing for permission. Regardless, prior to timed runs, you must notify Timing which driver will run first during timed runs. Those caught switching at any time without permission have been asked to sit out in the past.

- It is never permissible to have two active transponders on the same car at the same time. This blows up the computer.

So... Blowing up the computer is bad? Just kidding. I'll get a rental transponder and David Ray will use his. We'll just make sure that only one is on at a time.

Thanks! :)
