When I was a kid I always wanted to fly. Saved my lawn mowing and paper route money and started lessons at 15. Got my license at 16. I would fly around upstate New York with my 10 year old brother. Today I can't believe my mother let us do that!

My Dad took up flying and he bought a Cessna 206. I went around the US with he and my Mom once. Not quite a restful vacation - up at 6, check the weather, pack the car, get to the airfield, dad log a flight plan, mom and I unload the car/load the plane, fly to the next airfield, dad get the rental car, mom and I unload the plane/load the car, go to the national park and tour, finally rest at dinner! As you can see I'll never forget it and it is a fond memory.

Now I try to fly with my Porsche!

I still have my Mooney, Xcross has taken up my attention except for business trips. The Moonies are referrd as the Porsche of the skies. Both are small, fast and efficent. The actual Porsche powered Mooney was a little ahead of it's time,with it's single power lever.Mooney also installed the engine in a new for them "long" body version. A little more tweaking and it would have been a winner, as the new rage is single lever "Fadec" system. Porsche finally pulled the plug on engine support,after 20yr. or so. They paid to have all of them converted to Continental Engines. They were being converted in Florida and most were destroyed by a hurricane. I believe a few are still around but you cannot do anything but look at them as the paper work was also lost. The planes will have to be parted out and sold for scrap. Tooooo Bad it could have easily worked. Remember don't make the Krauts mad.

It still has the Porsche engine plus a spare. Think of the money savings. You could have Black Forest do the annual. "Yes John I need my the oil changed on my Boxster & Mooney, could I get a multiple vehicle discount?" Actually BF has a history with these sort of vehicles. I remember John telling me that Mark was called to repair the engine on the Goodyear Blimp one time.

I grew up flying my dad's 182. Pleasure flights with him on Sunday afternoons are some of my favorite memories of my dad. I have been looking at planes again. They are very cheap with the current cost of fuel.
