PCA membership required for the AX on 2/10?

Now I have a headache!

If the objective is membership required, then the event registration team should be checking against a region generated active members list during the pre-reg phase with one question to answer: Is this pre-reg from an active member? Yes=pre-reg accepted, No=pre-reg not accepted.

There is nothing to be gained by having the tech team look at membership cards since they have no idea who is pre-reg or not. And frankly it does not matter to the tech team in either case.

The logic that this is to help remind people of their membership status is flawed since it doesn't make a difference to your tech inspection result. It makes a difference if the driver is pre-reg or not, which the tech guy can't discern in either case.

Ok, I misspoke in regards to By Laws. When I looked at them this morning I saw Revised 2002, now I see Revised January 2008.

That said, I believe the event chair should have the final say at the event or before the event as to non members participating as per the Region rules. Allowing non members to participate in a P car only is a good way to get new members. Giving chairs leeway in this decision just makes sense. I would never agree to non members participating if it limited the number of laps for members.

Brian,

I agree with you about the headache part. Maybe we need to review how we check for current membership of AX participants. The truth is I've seen what pre-reg has to do and adding this task on their already heavy load may be unfair to them. This may also be unfair to the Tech guys as well. This process may need to be reviewed to find a way to validate participants in a way that isn't a major burden to any of the chairs. I know that checking against a membership list would be a logistic nightmare since memberships expire and are renewed every month. There is no simple answer. Lets bare with it until we can find a better way. I'd like to thank all of our chairs for all of their hard work that makes PCASDR what it is, the best PCA region. Without our chairs and volunteers we'd have no events to participate in. The forum also helps us raise issues such as this one so we can help clarify facts or identify issues that need to be addressed for the betterment of the club. To this end lets all work together to keep PCASDR the best region in PCA.
