What to do in San Diego...

Postby Z-man on Sun Mar 02, 2008 4:08 pm

Hello San Diego PCA-ers...
I'll be in San Diego for business for about 10 days starting on March 4th. I'll be there over the weekend, and I just wanted to get beat on what to do/what to see while there.

I will be attending the autocross on the 8th - and have managed to secure a 944Spec from Tim Comeau. I am looking forward to that event very much. Hopefully, the West coast '44 drivers can show me a thing or two about how it's done.... ;)

I'll have the following Sunday and Monday to explore San Diego and the vicinity -- any suggestions? I visited your fine city about 10 years ago with Mrs. Z-man, so I've seen some of the sights (Sea World, The Zoo...etc).

Checking your calendar, I see there is a swap meet in Ponoma on the 9th -- probably wan't go to that -- too tempting to get something that will cost me an arm and a leg to ship home.... But on the 10th, there's the Motorhead Monday event at Oggi's. I'd love to attend, if you folks won't mind.

So - any other ideas? PCA -oriented activities?

Hope to meet up with some of you during my stay,

-Zoltan.

John: Thanks! I'm looking forward to both!

Query -- any chance to purchase some San Diego PCA gear (shirts/hats...etc) at the AX or at Motorhead Monday?

Zoltan-

There are a bunch of museums in Balboa Park to see beside the Zoo--most notably for a gearhead I would suggest a visit to the San Diego Automotive Museum, and also the San Diego Air & Space Museum.

If you have time to browse the inventory at Symbolic Motors in La Jolla, Bill Noon usually has a few significant Porsches around, as well as other historic cars in the showroom, once you get past the new Bentleys, Lambos, Bugatti Veyron, etc., up front. The good stuff is in the back. :D

It's also often worth a visit to their service/restoration shop in Sorrento Valley to see the projects that have not yet made it to the showroom floor.

Buying SDR Goodies

Postby Larry Clark on Mon Mar 03, 2008 11:36 am

Welcome, Z-man!

I can't answer whether our Goodie Store will be at the AX while you're here. They normally don't set up at social events such as the Motorhead Monday, but they usually come to autocrosses every couple of months. If you contact Kent Lewis or Mike Thompson at store@pcasdr.org, you can probably arrange to cross paths during your visit.

One other option: The next issue of the Windblown Witness (our club's answer to Porscheforus) will include the following ad:

The Goodie Store is now online.

Now you won’t have to wait for an event to find the Goodie Store.

From WWW.PCASDR.org click on the link to Goodie Store, to find a vast array of items just waiting to be snapped up.

Buy clothing with our very own PCASDR logo for yourself, or a loved one. Buy items of particular interest to Porsche aficionados’

Have them delivered right to your door or sent direct to a friend or family. And remember all sales contribute directly to support our club.

The online link is not yet active, but it probably will be by the time you get back home. So if you can't score anything during your visit, you can arrange for a mail-order purchase soon after.

I hope this information helps. Enjoy your visit. I'll look for you at the Motorhead Monday.

Hey Zoli,

Nice name! Did you pre-register yet? The deadline is today by fax to save $20.

lowyder993s: PPOT will continue to be moderated... I see all and can do all... (Muhahaha...)

Jennifer: I sent in my pre-reg with my check last week - Wednesday or Thursday -- from NJ. Hopefully it got to the registrar in time! Will your son be at the AX Saturday? See you there!

FYI: I got word back from the goodie store -- they will be at this Saturday's AX from about 10am to 1pm.
