Jan. 24 AX is a David and Goliath Challenge!

Postby Bill Behun on Mon Jan 12, 2009 1:53 pm

At the last event in Sept. at El Toro , the Orange County Porsche Club (DAVID) had a three point advantage over us (GOLIATH). (Low score is
the goal). With the next event here (home) we should be able to catch them! This AX will be the deciding event for the 2008 season. :rockon:

Steve Equina will be making an "appropriate" trophy for us (I am assuming we will win!!)(Will he assume this?)

Below is an article that appeared in OCR's Pandemonium Magazine.

----------
Sept. 21st we also held an AutoX. The event ran very smooth and the weather was just right. Over 15 entrants from TEAM GOLIATH drove up from the San Diego Region. TEAM GOLIATH thought they would come up and finish off OCR’s TEAM DAVID. This was the third event of the David & Goliath Challenge. Was SDR in for a surprise! With two of the series events behind us and the score tied, OCR was ready! The competition was tight and the TOP TEN BRI index scores were won by five OCR members and five SDR
drivers as follows: 1st place: OCR Pierre Maurier - 2001 Boxster;
2nd place: OCR David Palmquist - 1969 911;
3rd Place: SDR Carl Vandershuit - 2001 Boxster;
4th place: SDR Gary Burch -1971 911;
5th Place: OCR Steve Eguina - 2003 GT2;
6th Place SDR Joseph Elumba - 1972 911;
7th Place: SDR Kim Crosser - 2000 Boxster;
8th place: OCR Evan Fullerton,
9th Place: SDR Dan Andrews - 1973 911;
10th place: OCR James Buck - 1988 Carerra.

TEAM DAVID WINS! Remember the low score wins! The
final score: TEAM DAVID 26 – TEAM GOLIATH 29

Martin - Jad - George Copelin - Jess - Mr. Burch - Tawfik - "Coverboy" Jim Binford - Erik and Mark - my fingers are getting numb typing - Let's all make it out to take them on - work out our Charger frustrations - and drive on the repaired west lot. Make Steve Equina and OCR eat our dust! :rockon:

Bill,

It might be a better measure to use BOTH BRI and TTOD. Just use the top ten in each category. Take the BRI score (as in the past) AND the TTOD scores, indivdually. Then, combine both for an OVERALL winner. It would provide some balance and make for a better competition. We could still award winners in BRI and TTOD, as well as OVERALL.

Has this been considered when these David/Goliath things were first conceived? We all know the issues with BRI. Certainly, TTOD has its issues, as well. But, a combination of the two might even out the competition a little better, get more folks involved and make it more fun for everyone.

Can we make it happen? If not, why not?

Steve Equina set up the scoring system for 2008. Can't mess with the system until this January event is over - the last one for "2008 series"

We can discuss your suggestions with Steve on the 24th. If it helps San Diego .... nah! We don't need no help! :D

It is when your battery charger does not charge your batteries, or overcharges them and takes their money :roflmao:

I especially have charger frustration with my cell phone - I forget it needs charging.

In my earlier note I should have capitalized the first 'c' in Charger - but I already forget why! Boo hoo. :banghead:

I would think that before you could have Charger frustrations, you would have to have some expectations... ("I feel much better since I gave up hope.") :surr:

Does anyone besides Steve know how the scoring works? Seems to me, Steve just makes up the rules after each event to keep things close. Is this F1 and Steve is Bernie????

Real simple Now Jad pay attentions very closely :D

Take the top 5 BRI placing drivers from each region ........add up what place they finished............lowest score wins.
..........................VERY High tech :lol:

PS: Why would you ask anyone else......I made up the rules :roflmao:

Hopefully it is dry tomorrow

Hi guys,

Here are the UNOFFICIAL, everybody is a 5 point winner event, BRI Results. Keep in mind that these results may not be entirely accurate. The autocross chairs authorized me posting these just for reference, and they will not count for the championship.

It was still a fun event, even with the new timing and running out of time issues. Thanks Tom Brown and the timing team for spending all day working out the kinks. I am sure we will run smoother next time.

Hi Gang! THANK YOU EVERYONE IN SDR FOR THE HOSPITALITY YESTERDAY :D
This was GREAT FUN yesterday :beerchug: I think for every one of the four events each region had 5 drivers each in the top 10 BRI. While the BRI may not be perfect it makes for a fun way to get most of the classes involved in the Challenge. Yesterday was a fast course yet a Cayman was first, a boxster 2nd & 3rd , a 914 was 6th and a GT2 and GT3 finished 8th and 9th. A pretty good mix of cars. In another event the ealy 911's FI's were the car to beat and in another event the KI's were the BRI class to beat.

I did have assistance from several of the SDR "Chiefs" yester day in adding up the scores. The only error was OCR's TEAM DAVID had a 3 point lead going into the final event (Meaning OCR had scored 3 less points in the frist three events) TEAM DAVID picked up 1 point yesterday OCR 27pts vs SDR 28 pts Thus, in the final series tally TEAM DAVID won the series over TEAM GOLIATH by 4 points.

Really close considering with 4 events there was a total of 220 points scored. :rockon: See you all at the Driver Awards Party.

I'll bring the calender so we can plan the 2009 dates :rockon:
Have Fun! Steve
