GOOD LOCAL TIRE MOUNTING AND ORDERING

Postby MTrotter on Mon Jan 26, 2009 8:59 am

I spoke with a few people this Saturday about places to get your tires mounted.
With JMC (dave turner) out of business a lot of people are having to take their tires elsewhere and some expressed their dissatisfaction with the places they used.

Well, if you need tires mounted on your Porsche or any car for that matter and don't want the wheels scratched, bent or if you just need a place you can trust to order and mount tires on your 200,000 mile Honda contact Steve Coe at C2 Motorsports.
They are located near Black Forest on Vickers street. They can order and mount tires, they carry helmets, performance parts, safety equipment of all sorts such as driving suits, gloves and fire systems. Any other part you need for your car you can also order through him for a very good price. They are currently working on replacing their broken machine that shaves tires.
I have used Steve a few times and it was very reasonable. He mounted my 16 inch Subaru tires for $50. of course prices may vary based on wheel size but that's what the 16 inch wheels cost me.
Tell him Morgan Trotter sent you and you are a member of SCCA or PCA and you should be very well taken care of. He might even challenge you to a PS3 GT5 challenge if business is slow that day. they have multiple game consoles set up right there in the shop!

Oh, GREAT! Now I'll never get out of there ....

Seriously, thanks for the tip. I "flip" my tires on the rims mid-year and used to use Import Tire for that work. Don and Joe were top-end and rarley took my $$ for the job. (Sigh) Ah, the gold ol' days......

Jerry G. at Discount has been very kind to me lately, and I'm sending him more of my work. But, he can get really slammed and sometimes errors do happen...like when he accidently threw away a pair of worn tires instead of re-mounting them for a DE. Oh, well ....

I'll definitley look into C2. Thanks, Morgan.

I've heard good things about C2.
Looking forward to supporting the local vendors.

Since we are talking tires, I recently have had great experiences with a place closer to my location in La Mesa.
Wayne at Preston tire has a special racer price of $15 mount and balance per rim regardless of size.
I told him I have 24 rims, just right for my 17x14s. 8)
afaik they can match tire rack prices.
If you need car stereo/bluetooth cell phone work be sure to check out their specialty shop.
They do some big projects.
The stereo side manager spent a season as a pimp my ride TV show celebrity.
Last time I got tires they had just finished a new Ford 4x4 van out fitted in low sheen satin green (so bears won’t be drawn to anything bright) for a 3 month father and son Alaska trip.
The wider rear tires blocked the stock sliding door from opening so they installed a one off nitrogen remote gull wing side door, cool to see.
For a BIG shop it provides a super car guy friendly experience.
The owner is in the PCA and drives an RSA too. :D

Yeah, but you can't hold that against him!

They do great work and deliver exactly what they commit to you. If I wasn't getting my tire and alignment work pro-bono, would still be using them myself.

+1 for Preston's. I have been going to him for years. They used to be in Mission Valley. He runs a shop the way it should be. No waiting for hours, just pull in and they get it done.

I have been told prestons is very good as well. and for those of you in chula vista, Courtneys is quite good too. Courtneys is a bit more on the expensive side when it comes to buying tires, but in the 35 years my family has been going there for their tires... not a single problem. you might have to speak spanish if you want to explain something to the service tech that you didnt tell them at the front desk. . . . but thats the case with just about anywhere in chula vista.
C2 motorsports is much more user friendly, central and a very pleasant place to visit. Steve the owner has been racing for 25 years. He currently autox's with the SCCA and builds vintage race cars in his spare time.
their machines are state of the art, the shop is clean and they can order anything you need. I have ordered stuff for my Porsche, Toyota Corolla and my old BMW's there.
Just food for though. I know everyone here has their tire/race shops... but they are getting fewer every day. this one is here to stay. (i.e. little overhead, few (2) employees and a good business model.)
So, give them a call and order your tires for 2009.

p.s. I do not work for C2 Motorsports. ha ha :beerchug:
