Hoosier Hokus Pocus

Last Saturday morning at Fontana, I noticed a lot of cars running what appeared to be Hoosier 03 tires. When we walked by the Hoosier trailer, I noticed it was full of them. I spoke to the head rep from Hoosier and asked him why they still had them. He told me they were not 03's, they just looked like them and they were being made just for the Grand Am series. Hmmmmm. Looked like 03's, smelled like 03's, bet they were 03's. My wife mentioned to him that there were a lot of unhappy people with the new 04's. His reply was, "they'll get over it". That just makes me feel so good about spending somewhere around 10K on Hoosier tires this year!!!! Weel, if the new 04's are so good, then the Grand Am guys would be clammoring to get them, don't ya think?

I have not used the 04's but I have not heard a lot of good news about them either. Maybe Hoosier needs a little kick in the butt by getting PCA members nationwide to give them a bit of a wakeup call. What do you guys think?

I have either 6 or 8 (frankly I can't remember) '04 tires corded on inside and outside inch (they have defective molds). Hoosier has had these for several months for replacement and as near as I can tell - their customer service is just like your wife heard - get over it.

I have switched to the Pilot Sport Cups. Just as sticky but a little heavier - wear a lot better as well. Based on my experience with Hoosier and their apparant lack of concern for the customer I probably won't go back.

Burl: you really think MPSC's are as sticky as the S03/04? I had never that. Did you get them shaved or full tread?

I must say the MPSC are not nearly as sticky as Hoosiers, IMHO. Burl, bring those tires (MPSC) down to the next timed auto-x and I run my street tires like I did before, that 1.5 second differential from the last auto-x I did will disappear for sure Better yet, are you going to the streets event?

For those thinking about MPSC, try the Dunlop's, they are much less expensive and better in my opinion overall (stick, wear, etc)

I recent. They are not as nearly as sticky - but since I am really disgusted with Hoosier, it makes it easier if I tell myself that they are as sticky. Except of course when I loose to someone in KP - then I blame it completely on the tires.

Having said that, I do think they are more sticky that Kumhos Victor racers I generally get them standard tread depth and heat cycled - since I want to get a handful of events on them - they are expensive

I understand that Kumho her re-introduced the V710, which I think is more or less exactly the same as the Hoosier '04?

When it is available in sizes you can use on all 4 corners, you will find that it is faster and wears much better than the Hoosier. The 710 pretty much won every class they were entered in at Nationals this year.

I believe that thread, which I participated in, was talking about race track driving, the MPSC's will never get enough heat in them in an auto-x. I do however beleive that the MPSC will out last a Hoosier particularly the 04's that cord out so quickly.
