DE at Coronado is a GO !!!!!!

Postby SDGT3 on Wed Jul 08, 2009 10:09 pm

The DE Chairs are happy to report Board approval for this DE to be held on Thursday, September 24, 2009 at North Island!!! More details to follow, but here are the most important items to consider:

1. PCA members fee for the event will be $195. Non-PCA members at $225. We understand this is more expensive than the Qualcomm DE and the DE held last month at Fontana, but the actual out of pocket costs to SDR members will be less when compared to our usual travel to out of town track venues given the minimal amount of gas needed to actually get to the track, no hotel needed, spare parts close by with all our supporting shops, etc. etc. etc.

2. Due to the large number of entrants we need to break even on this event, other car clubs will be invited including, but not limited to the Vintage Racers themselves who will be racing on Saturday and Sunday of Speedfest and could consist of at least 25 entrants themselves.

3. ONCE THIS IS ON MOTORSPORTS REG., SIGN UP AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. DO NOT WAIT!!!! The Fontana DE sold out and those on the waiting list did not get in. It is possible that the number for PCA members will be limited to 80 with others (including the Vintage Racers) filling in the rest of the available slots. The emphasis is on EARLY REGISTRATION GUARANTEES YOU A SPOT FOR THIS ONCE IN A LIFE TIME OPPORTUNITY!!

4. Spread the word out to other track junkies and regions. This is a really big deal and to make it work, we need the numbers to justify the expense.

Other things will be going on during the week such as taste of the track and a possible AX or something along those lines for Saturday and Sunday. This is almost like a mini PCASDR Parade with the multi-day event format.

Thanks for your continued support and we hope to see you all out there!!!! :beerchug:

As a side note, the August 8th DE at Qualcomm has been canceled to make way for this event. If you were planning on attending the Qualcomm DE, try your best to make this one. It won't be forgotten!!!

Correct. The DE is on Thursday, the other events to be announced at a later time will be on Saturday and Sunday.

Details are yet to be worked out because it was just approved last night. We're working on motorsports reg. details as well.

I do know that we'll need all the volunteers we can get. Fontana did seem to have a lot of cars that did not pre-tech despite the numerous mentions to do everything you can to pre-tech.

I will give everyone a little heads up. The track will be going hot at 8:00 a.m. sharp and we shut down at 5:00 p.m. There will be no break in between for lunch. That means our driver's meeting will be earlier than we're all used to. Speedfest has a contract with their own concessions, so they will be selling food at the track.

IN ADDITION, WE HAVE BEEN FORWARNED THAT ALL CARS/TRAILERS/TOW VEHICLES THAT COME ONTO THE BASE WILL BE GETTING INSPECTED BY BASE SECURITY. THIS INCLUDES SHUTTING DOWN THE CAR, MPs LOOKING UNDER YOUR VEHICLE WITH MIRRORS AND BOMB SNIFFING DOGS. JUST IMAGE OVER 130-150 PARTICIPATES LINED UP OUTSIDE THE GATES AND WAITING TO BE INSPECTED. THEN UNLOADING, GETTING TECHED, MAKING THE DRIVER'S MEETING ON TIME AND STILL BEING ABLE TO RUN BY 8:00 A.M.

PLEASE MAKE ALL EFFORTS TO PRE-TECH YOUR CAR AS TIME WILL BE TIGHT IN THE MORNING.

I have a 1964 Volvo PV 544 I need to test and tune. I'm a current PCA member (and regular racer with VARA). No problem running this car for sorting it out a little. Do we have runs all day?
