Just wondering

The usual thanks to the people behind the scenes and at the track that spend most of their day making us stay on time and enjoy a (hopefully not...)once in a lifetime thrill of a DE. Now exponentially multiply that. Martin Lipp really IS the energizer bunny. Peter B, Debby and Chuck, Jim Binford who flew in just to steward today. Janet and Curt, Mark and Katina, Jerry B, George and many many more including instructors who gave military personnel rides.
Going down the front straight in the morning watching a fighter jet taking off was pretty amazing. It's a toss up with the right hand turn after the chicane and you look straight at two hovering helicopters. Not to mention the ship with sailors on deck, cruising by with race cars zooming by in the foreground!
Anyway, I was just wondering about how many miles people got today. I logged 140. It was nice of all those people in uniform to volunteer to help my seat time habit. Not bad for a Thursday.

Jackie, you nailed it. It's the (mostly) unsung volunteers that make this club what it is. I nominate SuperMartin for enthusiast of the year.
I'm downloading my in car vids now, I can't wait to see if my video system is sharp enough to see jet fighters climbing out in front of me in turn one.
Kudos to those who gave all the military rides. I sort of shrugged off my instructor responsibilities today (I gave one check ride and that was it) so I could give my wife rides all day.
She's never been in a race car before, not even at an AX.......and totally surprised me by loving every minute of it (woo hoo!)
All in all, it was a Yippee! day.

Well I logged about 18 in your passenger seat awesome! And not a single cone! --- good thing you got mini mirrors or those chicane tires (the ones just right of my head) would have been outta there! Kudos to Mark R for another set of laps with him! The jets taking off just beyond the straight was an incredible sight too, I hope there is some good footage of that Woot!

I logged 162 miles at the DE today. I gave 5 navy personnel rides as well as a session each with George and Joel. Both of them came down to help as volunteers and didn't drive. It was a great day and I have to give Kudo's to Jackie for all of her hard work as well. Hopefully this will happen again. If not, we can all say "remember when we drove the track at Coronado". Thanks to all of the volunteers. It seemed like it took a small army and I appreciate every one of you. SDR Rocks!

I'm just curious what 1:20's means in average speed? (I'm guessing about 60 mph...)

The track length previously posted was 1.7 miles, and I had also heard 1.6 miles previously, but this data from Paul indicates 1.45 miles.

A 1:20 (or 80 second) lap based on a 1.45 mile track length would be an average 65.25 mph, Dave. If it really was 1.7 miles long, it would be a 76.5 mph average.

I would also like to add my kudos to the crew for a very well-run and fun event. The variety of cars was more interesting than usual, to say the least. I have never been on the track with a NASCAR truck, a Winston Cup car and a Chevy Monza before! Next time can we have at least one Porta-Potty in the trailer parking area though? I forgot to bring a bike with me.

I should point out that the 7660 figure was for my fastest lap of that session. I had laps with shorter or
longer distances, which reflects different lines taken (either due to traffic, experimentation, or stupidity).
Most of the slower laps also had shorter distances travelled. For example, taking a wide, sweeping exit
on turn 2 resulted in a longer distance, but faster lap, due to higher speeds. That's part of the performance
driving equation - sometimes a longer distance means a quicker lap (and, or course, sometimes not).

This is a real track (asphalt) and super smooth with much friendlier run off!
One of my favorite tracks and a great learning track as it has just about every feature you can imagine.

So whether you have a 944 or a 997GT3RS you will love this track.
And it is coming fast! October 17&18!

I looked at some of my Data. Two laps a 1.18.769, covered a distance of 7620.4 feet (1.44325miles) makes an average speed of 65.51mph and a top speed of 107.42, min speed 37.64. A second Lap of 1.19.307 covered 7620 feet (1.44318 miles) makes an average speed of 65.20, with top speed of 105.56 and min at 37.92.

My Data shows that a theoretical fastest lap of 1.17.9xx could have been achieved. I was Averaging just on either side of 1.19.000, so 1 second off Theoretical isn't to bad.

But, Yes, it was a VERY, VERY FUN DAY!!!!!! I can't wait to do it again.

Wow! Does Team DE rock, or what?

That was the most fun we've had since Fontana.

Is the rumor true that Martin is planning a charter plane flight to Laguna Seca for an Arrive and Drive DE in Formula Cars? Just kidding, but this DE team has moved the bar up so much that a professional race promoter team would be in trouble competing. We can't thank Martin, Peter and Carl enough.

I had a blast arcing that turn 1-2 combo and drifting in 3. The turn at 4 was the scary spot as we found out.

Thanks to everyone who participated and supported the Coronado Speed Festival DE and especially to those Instructors who did triple duty driving, instructing and giving rides to sailors. We are very lucky to have the depth of volunteers that allow an event like this to happen.
