It's kind of like Rock only...oops wrong metal band. :roflmao:

It's actually the band that holds the Fire extinguisher to the mounting bracket. Most Home Depot Fire extinguishers have a plastic band which is fine for hanging on the wall...not so good for sideways G-force. You don't want your Fire extinguisher becoming a projectile under hard cornering.

Where does one get the bracket, same place?
Is it easy to install?
(I have a 987 Boxster).
Thanks,

I am not sure if you can get just the bracket from them. Call them toll-free.
I would get some hose clamps and clamp the extinguisher bracket to the seat adjuster.
I am glad you are working on this now and not 2 days before the event.

For a Boxster, this is a 2-stage process. You need to get an "extinguisher mounting bracket", which mounts under the passenger seat. I called Black Forest and had them get the bracket and install it in my Boxster last March. By the way, there is one on eBay now for $69.99 - google "boxster extinguisher bracket" to find the link. Then, the metal mounting straps for the extinguisher have to be fastened to the bracket - this is different for each type of extinguisher mount, and usually involves drilling a couple of holes in the under-seat bracket to match the extinguisher holder. You can buy the extinguisher directly or just call one of the excellent Porsche shops around town and have them buy it and install it.
As noted before - just make sure the extinguisher has a strong metal strap securing it to the mount, rather than the cheap plastic ones used for home kitchen extinguishers (some home kitchen extinguishers are actually the right type of extinguisher, but the inexpensive wall mounts won't cut it).
I think everyone buys the Brey-Krause under-seat mounting brackets for Boxsters and Caymans. The mounts vary by model and year http://www.bkauto.com/porsche/fire_extinguisher_mounts_seat_rail_porsche.php.
Ease of install is all relative to your skills, patience, and available time... I don't believe it is particularly difficult, but you need to remove the seat. Brey-Krause has all the instruction sheets on-line, so you can walk through it and see if it is something that you want to try (see http://www.bkauto.com/porsche/instructions/R2040.pdf for instructions on a typical B-K bracket mount).

I just saw a 5 lb extinguisher at Costco with metal band for $32.00
It's big and clunky, but it'll work.

The Brey Krause under seat mount is pretty easy to install. I put one in Katina's 05 Boxster in about 30 minutes. The fire extinguisher and braket mount right to it with screws provided in the kit. You can remove the extinguisher and bracket for everyday driving if you like in about 2 minutes. Make sure that when you remove the seat, you don't turn the key on or you'll have to have the "idiot" light reset.

A follow up:
I ordered a 3 piece solution - a Brey Crause under seat mount, a fire extinguisher and a mount to match the two. I was hoping to have Black Forest to mount it for me, but, they weren't very responsive, so I did it myself.
Unlike Mark, it took me 2 1/2 hours but it was a fun challenge.
The result is quite pleasing. Though the nozzle rattles (I have to insert a small piece of rubber to quiet it down), the whole thing fits nicely, it moves with the passenger seat and it looks cool. Besides, it is easy to remove the extinguisher. I leave it in, why not?
Thank you everybody who helped with advice and information.
