Question about BRI

When I was actively Time Trialing several years ago, I recall discussions on the Forum about the BRI, which I thought concluded that (because it was generated by a/x data?) it was used for TTs more for fun than anything else (and therefore not a valid handicapping system for TTs). In trying to locate those discussions through a "search" of Forum posts, I came across over 500 recent references to the BRI, making it seem that it had become more accepted/valid.
So, I have two questions:
(1) has the BRI been refined over the last few years?
(2) curious what would it have taken for an AR2 car (since I have one ) to win #1 in BRI at Pahrump?

The Autocross BRI, based on an examination of the times in each class over the years, has been refined every now and then.
However, to my knowledge, the Time Trial BRI has never been re-examined since its inception. I would suggest that it is over due, and therefore isn't really very accurate as it currently stands. Basically, the autocross crew that set that one up has been pretty engaged with it since the start. Whomever set it up for Time Trial hasn't been.

Hey John..........that means you would have to do 116MPH++ average lap times!!! Can you do that?
I think you'll be needing a REALLY BIG horsepower motor, monster brakes, 1000 less pounds and a ton of down force to pull that off at Spring Mtn..........why not just go out a get an F1 car while you are at it.......... you might be able to pull off a #1 BRI then!!!

I remember several years ago being there when Kenny Rumbaugh did a record setting 1:44 on the old/short East Course!

While that sounds fast, it is probably about right for an AR2 car which is almost unlimited. One of the radicals was running 2:14's over the weekend.

I concur with Jad. AR2 is our Formula Libre where basically all modifications are allowed . Highly modified cars can win the BRI as it stands. Bill Dawson in a AR1 car won it last year at California Speedway.

I hear what you're saying, but as respects Pahrump, I doubt very seriously that anyone with an AR car is going to go 10 seconds faster than Bob Ehrman's 2:26 (Bob has a highly devloped car, no? And a few car control skills?). How many yards would that be? ( a few hundred --just a guess!). Pahrump is not a horsepower track like CS. So, more HP would help, but not 10 secs guys!!! C'mon. In the case of a technical track like Pahrump, I don't think the BRI formula gives the AR cars a fighting chance.
I agree with Tom Brown. The formula needs review. Or at least needs to be seen in the light of what it is (fun, but not very accurate).
(tho, who am to suggest anything since I haven't done a PCA TT in a long while, right --but I've been thinking about it!! )

This is moving to another topic, but since I've never done the new config, I'm curious how you all think Pahrump will work out for POC next year when they run a couple races there. Is it wide enough?

I think you'll find the new configuration at Pahrump to very nice. It's a long track with lots of good passing zones and very wide in places. Should be a great POC race track.
