Sorry, but that is bass-ackwards. We are the only ones who AREN'T enforcing the noise limit. We don't know if any of the residents are complaining, and I am sure that we do NOT want to ask the Stadium if they are seeing any increase in noise complaints!

I am a bit astounded that quite a few people seem to be saying "<bleep> the rules, as long as no one is complaining, who cares?"
They will likely be the same ones who will be surprised when the Stadium tells us to go away, since we won't abide by their rules - unlike all the other car clubs, including the dragsters. :banghead:
I am also surprised that some people wonder why they can't make a lot more noise in an urban parking lot than on a major race course (like Laguna Seca). Duh!

The City/Stadium has set the rules for using the parking lots - if anyone doesn't want to play by those rules, they should feel free to find another venue. Please don't ask the rest of the Club to turn a blind eye (or deaf ear in this case) to violations of the Stadium policies - especially ones that could potentially result in our loss of this venue.

Kim, I'm the last one in the world to extoll the virtues of loud exhausts (recall my post re quiet pipes make more power) and witness how quiet my car is (the brakes are the loudest thing on the car.....except the passengers  ). Most or our loud cars are that way because they have exceedingly crude exhaust systems straight out of the stone age <sorry to those offended, I just call 'em as I see 'em> and would likely make more power with larger volume (and much quieter) systems installed. Without the car (911's in particular) having been designed with room for a proper system in the first place, packaging issues may make this impossible, but I'm only considering exhaust flow in my argument.

With all that having been said, I sense a "sky is falling" hysteria going on. Is anyone actually complaining?

Kim,
I am certain you would know if the residents were complaining, as the Stadium would certainly let you know.

I am all in favor of enforcing the limit as stated by the Stadium at 93db. And hopefully , as Steve states, there would be help in that regard from some of the shops that are close by.

I do have some experience in the area of offensive sound. (PDY you can just hold those persnickety comments  ) The path to a solution is fairly straightforward. The first three steps have even been taken.

Dialogue: Good, bad, agreeable, argumentative...hash it out.
Device: An Accurate meter to find the DB's and put it to use.
Determine: A definitive statement of what level is appropriate
Delineate: A time frame in which the participants must comply.
Disqualify: If we have meter with a remote display I would guess that one of the electrical whiz kids in the group could rig a "red light" that happens if a Car exceeds the limit. Exceed the limitation during a practice run, let them know they are too loud. On a timed run, then its a DNF for that run.
Diary: Some DB meters have a "high record" for a given day/session. An ongoing record of each event with the highest output for the day would be simple.
Defend: If a complaint ever happens, we have a clear, accurate, long standing record of exactly how loud the event was.

Sorry for the alliteration, I'm a pastor, its what we do. :P

Actually you may not know if people are upset about the noise or not. I have gotten 2-3 calls over the last few years on a Monday after an event because someone on the hill was upset about the noise and got their telescope out to see who those hooligans at the stadium were. All they could see was a couple cars with Dieters across the windshield or door. So he called me at the shop to complain. I politely referred them to the club giving the pres@pcasdr.org email contact.
I never heard a word from any presidents so I can only assume they were to lazy to follow through with the complaint.
As a side note I asked if it was my car that they found to be noisy and they said that it was actually the tire squealing that they had an issue with...
So no 380 TW tires anymore... only quiet sticky tires!

I hope the donuts comments wasn't directed at me
I am surprised to see my 993 on the list since the car is 100% stock. Once I get my new mufflers done I am going to have to put the stock exhaust on to go to the track and put my "performance" mufflers on to drive around town! I guess its a good thing I didn't just hack up the factory exhaust since it may not be allowed in the future.
I have never been to the Race Legal events at Qualcomm, but there was not a single car at the autocross that I would consider "loud."

I would like to know how loud it's going to be this Sunday in the parking lot during the Chargers game.

Terry Barnum 93 dB? Must have been his tires. :? :?

If we ever do have a problem with the powers that be, we had better have some kind of documentation as to what we are doing about it.This seems to be a good start.I would think we would some kind of warning to begin with.At least the a/x chair`s are trying their best as usual !!! :banghead: !

I took this pic at Laguna Seca in 2008. Pretty elaborate setup.
Five (5) mufflers with outlet tips pointing away from the sound shack,
and he still sruggled with the dB limit (maybe due to intake noise); :surr:

And this is a Turbo (hence the center muffler)!

For anyone that's interested, I've come across a Tenma SPL meter for $30
http://www.mcmelectronics.com/product/TENMA-/72-935
I have a digital Tenma clamp on amp/volt/ohm/temp meter and have been 100% happy with products and cust service at MCM.
This one does reach down to 31Hz, the cheaper ones do not necessarily pick up the lower frequencies.
