The Killer Bee on the December issue of Excellence

You all might want to get hold of the December 09 issue of Excellence magazine and read John Payne's candid account of the Killer Bee's genesis and development into a winning racing machine at the highest club-racing levels as well as his development as a driver.

Holy COW, Otto!!!!!!!!!!!!
I don't know about all that, but it did turn out to be a nice article. And it gives a little bit of the flavor of what could be involved in competing for a Championship in a POC Class like GT2 where in 2007 and 2008 when we had about 20 participants (close competition on the track, planning and intrigue back in the garage, sleepless nights and alot of $$$$$).
There was much that wasn't said, particularly about 2007, when inevitable equipment failures (like a broken axle at Laguna while leading and going into the final lap, or Jim Copp's blown motor in the final event at Willow which was fixed between Qualifying and the race by Jae Lee, Kevin Roush and others who worked incredibly hard against the clock to install a new motor) taught us that winning a Championship is much more than just driving well, but you have to be lucky, too!!
Unfortunately, the Dec. issue, mailed to subscribers this week, won't be on the newstands until mid Nov.
Glad U enjoyed it.
I just saw it for the first time also and am quite excited, to say the least!
Thanks for the mention.

Yes John, I also thought it was a good article and you were pretty open about all you did which is why I called it a "candid account". It surely must have been an expensive proposition but dollars alone cannot produce a championship car. You need to have a well thought out plan, find more than competent technical assistance and be ready when it counts. Of course you also have to be able to drive the car like you stole it and you obviously were able to accomplish all that. Congratulations!

Contrats John. Nice article on the build and progression of car and driver.

Also good mention of John Simonne, San Diego region member, builder & fabricator extraordinaire and head of the growing Simonne Possee of race cars.
