I emailed Kumho asking about future availability of sizes for the V710 and received this:

Dan Davis, PR for Kumho, says that a 245/45-16 will also be available in April. Dan drives a very nicely prepared 924S in the 944 spec series back east. The car was featured in Grass Roots Motorsports a while back....black with red & yellow flames; has run with both yellow- and red-painted phone dials.

Man, one (lame) size in 17". I'm glad I switched to 18. 245/285 will be a good combo for my car.

'Course I'm probably not going to run Kuhmo anyway, so I'm really not sure why I care.... nevermind.

They have other sizes in 17's, these are just the new ones.

These others are currently available:

275/40/17
315/35/17
335/30/17

the 245/275 17 combination would work well for the Boxster, as would the 245/285 18 combination.

Thanks for the clarification James. I sounded like the list above was going to be the complete offering.

Personally, I think a 40mm differential between front and rear on the Boxster S is the ideal situation. I can't remember if I've tried 245/275 combo yet. But it seems like it would to much rubber on the front, inducing oversteer. Of course now that I have an adjustable suspension I can probably dial that out. And if it's the only combo offered by a manufacturer then I guess your stuck with it.

If it wasn't for Brent Kish, I probably never would have tried the 255-40R17 x 245-45R17 Victoracers. But, it actually works pretty good on the RSA. Maybe better than the taller and heavier 275 rear, plus less points and money. And these 911's have a little oversteer problem you may have heard about.

On a side note to anyone reading this, I was hoping that Gerry Gutierez up at Discount Tire would get a tire shaver so that we could take advantage of Kumho V700's and also the Toyos that are popular. He said he wants one, but that he also has to convince the man that it is a worthy investment. He's definitely working on it. So, if you see him let him know to try hard, or think of a way to make a business case for him.

I'm not sure I'm following you Bob. Are you saying you use 245 in front and 255 in the rear?

I had 225 front and 245 rear @ the last streets event and had major understeer problems. Of course Jae was able to dial a lot of the out at the last AX. So we'll see. I'm bringing 18" Toyo's and 17" Kuhmo's to Streets at the end of the month, so we'll see how it works out.

Yes. I have been running 245 front and 255 rear for the past year, and seems to be pretty good. I went down from 245 front, 275 rear to save the 2 pts and stay in KS because of the LSD rule last year. I thought I would have to go to a narrower front, but when I tried it out, it seemed to work pretty good the way it was. I was happy with the performance last year, so I'm not sure it was a compromise.

When the 05 rules pass, I will be in KP with lots of points to burn, so I'll have to decide if I go back to the 275 rears. The ones I ordered for streets were 245 front and 255 rear. And I'm definitely interested in trying out the 710's.
