Thoughts needed on this car please

Postby Mmagus on Thu Apr 15, 2010 2:10 pm

A good friend of mine (Craig) is interested in becoming part of the Porsche Family. His tastes, it seem, run toward the 944 Cab and he has been looking for one. He located this and called on it. What we currently know is that the paint is faded, the windshield has has "small crack", the top is new but was installed wrong and needs serious adjustment, and it has 3 different brands of tires on it though they all have decent tread. The injectors were replaced a few thousand miles ago but there are no other service records for it. I am guessing he can find better for nearly the same cost but with the Cab model I am unsure. Any helpful thoughts or suggestions would be apreciated. Lets get Craig up and running soon!

Thanks!
Mark

No records and the only recent work done was done incorrectly. S2 cabs are not very common and the motors are not easy or as inexpensive to repair. I'd suggest finding a coupe or holding out for a cab in verifiable good condition.

Over the past year there have been several (many?) 944 Cabs for sale in SD or reasonably near. The prices are not high even for rather nice ones. I would suggest waiting for a good one. The shops usually know of some that the customer would sell if asked. Try asking around at the major service shops and I would bet that you will find a nice, well serviced one for not a lot more than this one. :D

Yikes...
Sounds like he should run as fast as he can in the opposite direction.

Buy the nicest car he can afford, not a project.
The nice car will still need attention.
I would keep 968 cabs in mind; much nicer car for not a lot more money.
And I imagine there are more to choose from.

+1 on the 968 cab.
I looked at one awhile back that was very low miles and could have won a major concours and it was only $14k asking price. I would have bought it, but really wanted a coupe for the track use.

The particular one you found has been for sale for a very long time. It seems that many have found that it is not a good deal. I think that the owner even has two of them.
Keep looking! Try some OC craigslist and autotrader.

I know of a 968 cab (Chris Huck's old car: red on black) for sale. It's in great shape, few miles since purchased and probably worth more than asking price: around $14K. Lemme know if your interested. 8)
