Not Keeping Score... BUT... MSS Question

Postby bryanearll on Sat Dec 18, 2004 10:33 pm

I know it was a timed but not scored event but I'm dying to know how ole B stacked up with his peers.

So, if you recall your best time, drive a car in the MSS class group and finished well please toss down a post for next year's competition sake and let me know how badly I got skunked.

My best time for the day was: 1:07:50
(2001 996)

I know number "20" Boxster S beat me by at least a second once.

I think Robert Carlseen told me his best time was a 1:05 and some change.

Well hat's off to Charlie for a great run!!

Of course, if he's running MSS in a regular Boxster, then he must have spent a point or two somewhere to knock him up a class.

I have 2 points to spend in the New Year (notably keeping an eye on the forthcoming rule changes) so Yep, I'll be chasing Charlie next year then.

Points would not typically move someone up to MSS from LSS. The progresssion would be to LS and beyond. The only reason to move up to M from L might be if there is a wider tire allowance in M.

Correct, unless the driver wants to move up a class which the rules allow.

It's better not to compare your MSS times with LSS. :D Because, it is normal for the regular Boxster LSS class to beat the MSS class at an Autocross event. (gear ratio and weight are probably the reason) Al, Kim, Charlie, David, Louis and I had a lot of fun beating the MSS times :D with our non-S Boxsters. Of course it didn't always work out, because Denise was dominating the MSS class at the time. Al (Boxster S) and Sean (996) are the guys to watch out for in MSS.

Not to brag (well of course it is), but in my stock 2.7L Boxster with street tires (and my student and spare tires [the car's spare tire and my spare tire]) I had a clean 1:05.82.

I am sure I could shave off a second or so without a passenger.

Well it sure was fun to get back in the saddle after a couple of years off. Running in MS trim (2 points for H&R springs, 2 for 285s, and 2 for Dunlop R compound tires) I was able to run a couple of low 1:03s with a passenger. There was easily an extra second to be had without the passenger and a some more consistency finding my brake points.

There is no doubt the R-compound tires give you about 2 seconds a lap. The rest is pure skill!

Hey Martin,

Sean and I are the ones who put the pressure on
Al...

I sure would have liked to see Denise out there in her Boxster to gauge just how fast Dynes really is...

Sean blew up his car in order to win MSS this year and now needs a new engine because of it! (3rd Rear Main Seal leak). I will miss seeing the big puff of smoke coming from his tailpipes though.........

Can't wait till next year....With Dynes out of the picture and Denise cruising her GT# it should be Al and I battling it out for bragging rights.....
