Nov 7 Autocross Test Day

Hey old timers,

I'm finally coming back to race.
It took a long time (3+ years, a move, a new job, and two children later), but I'm ready to get the new car onto a track (sans paint job).
I signed up for the November 7th autocross.

My new car is a Simone special for those who haven't seen it.
It's in AR2 based on points.
It's probably more suited to a track than an autocross, but this seems like a good opportunity to try it out, get used to it at slower speeds, and make sure that everything is ok.

I have a muffler and supertrap on it, so should be quiet enough.
I'm a little worried about bumps and swale crossings, but planned to drive easy and try to avoid problems.
Can I request a parade lap from autocross chairs for safety? Thanks!

Welcome back! It's been a long time coming, Bob. I'm looking forward to seeing the new ride.

I'd suggest you drop a note to the AX Chairs requesting an "open mind to an open track" so you can get a chance to stretch the legs of the new track car. The recent tracks have been very suited to cars with good handling, good doses of HP, and opportunities to pick the good line. As for parade laps, we've been getting a lot of those lately with the lower turn-out numbers, so you'll most likely be in luck for a parade lap.

It will be good to have you back. Just, bring your spare plates for the supertrap muffler.

This is what I need - try to prevent delaying practice laps so corner workers can pick up shattered fiberglass

Bob, since I am one of the Safety Chairs, look me up before the track walk and we can do the safety /scrape check.

It'll be good to see you out driving again, Bob. The swale in the west lot got filled in somewhat when they did resurfacing a couple of years ago, and is not as abrupt of a dip as it used to be, so I think your splitter is safe with the usual angled entries we run. The biggest problem is the random potholes where the surface is breaking up everywhere. There have been "patching parties" put on by the club in concert with the SCCA and BMW folks the last few years to keep them at bay, too, so with some creative design of the course, your fiberglass bits should be OK.

Looking forward to seeing your new machine, and I bet you can't wait to drive it! Hope the shakedown goes perfectly.

for a race car suspension some of the concrete patches should be avoided too.
fwiw as the asphalt continues to erode away some of the older concrete patches now sit above the surrounding worn away asphalt.
I only had 400/250 springs (since doubled for dedicated tracks) last QDE and it was great fun and a bit bumpy.
Found Q rocks in my pedal cluster too.
Only place to race in the summer!
