SAN DIEGO - The City Council again today was unable to agree on a location for a temporary winter homeless shelter in San Diego.
The City Council convened a special evening meeting to consider putting the 220-bed shelter at Qualcomm Stadium or a parking lot near the Balboa Naval Hospital in Balboa Park.
Unable to reach consensus, the City Council voted 7-1 to reconvene Friday morning, when it will consider more than dozen sites, including those they have already dismissed. City Council President Ben Hueso, who proposed the Balboa Park location, cast the lone dissenting vote.
A site in downtown's East Village at F and 13th streets was rejected last week by the City Council. In September, the City Council also delayed a decision on where to put the homeless shelter.
The tent structure is supposed to serve the homeless from November through March.
The location of the winter homeless shelter, which has been set up in the East Village for the past three years, has sparked an annual outcry from residents to move it elsewhere.
