SA2000

SO.....
My head bucket expires in one day.
The SA2010 / SA2005 are out. Is there a grace period for those who procrastinate and would like to do the 1st. event of the year with out buying a new helmet ??
I'm sure I'm thinking / speaking for others.

David,

Ordering a new SAH2010 or SA2010 Helmet is no problem, but receiving one on time may be. It took 8 weeks to receive my new helmet SAH2010 and it's accessories (visor, top spoiler etc).

I would make sure first that your racing organization isn't expanding the time for using the SA2000. Example: HSR-West will allow SA2000 helmets until the end of June 2011 and I believe SCCA will do same.

What does PCA or POC do about the 2010 helmet shortage?

Just checked the PCA Club Racing Rules for 2011 (see below) and I am guessing that San Diego will do the same and expand the grace period to June 2011

Helmets must be certified in accordance with one of the following standards: SNELL SA2000, SNELL SA2005, Snell
SA2010 or SAH2010, FIA 8860-2004, SFI 31.1, or BS6658-85 type A/FR. As of June 1, 2011, Snell SA2000 helmets will no
longer be allowed. Helmets certified to specifications other than Snell must be within 10 years of the date of manufacture.
Helmets must have the driver’s name on the rear and have the approved PCA Club Racing Inspection sticker displayed on the
left side. It is recommended that helmets be replaced or relined after 5 years of actual use.

Thanks, Tom. This makes sense to me, as our AX/DE/TT rules have generally allowed any helmet that is legal for PCA club racing to be used. In the other thread on this subject, I noted that the SCCA has decided to allow SA2000 helmets through the entire 2011 season, not just until July, and was hoping we would clarify this issue before the tech inspection at our first event of the new year.
