VITAL information on Saturdays AX. PLEASE READ

Postby Mmagus on Wed Jan 12, 2011 11:33 am

Hi everyone. We have a problem…fortunately it’s a GOOD problem. There are currently 122 people signed up for this Saturday’s Autocross! Some of the information below includes things we already do, but with quite a few new drivers I am trying to cover the bases, if I miss something please chime in. We need your help to make this happen; here is what you can do.

Please be understanding. Because of the response, there will be no late registration; in fact registration at Motosportreg is now closed.

If you are an instructor WE NEED YOU. We are currently short. Even if your Porsche is in for repairs and you can't compete, please come down and assist. If you have not registered, and can come help out please let Jackie C. know through a PM and post here.

Please be Understanding. There may need to be some bumping of participants before the event. Highest preference will be given to PCA SDR members driving Porsches. The higher-ups in registration and AX will determine who might be asked to come next time and inform them/you. (sometimes to pays to be the nOObie as I don’t’ have to make that call!)

Tesla will still be there, and just a few Tesla owners. They will not be running for the whole event and should not hurt the schedule.

Please be Understanding (sense a theme?) We plan to run a 12 practice lap + timed format but may need to adjust as the day progresses. We will be sending cars out at safe intervals and will do our utmost best to pace things so you don’t catch the person in front of you but if for some reason it happens, just pull up and practice your line at a slower pace. We will then adjust the spacing on your next lap.

Please be overly aware of the run groups, when you are up and when your corner working is scheduled. Keep an eye on those flags and be ready to roll before you are called. If you arrive late in your run group you unfortunately will lose whatever laps might have missed. If we are going to keep on schedule we all need to be extra diligent and flexible.

We KNOW that this club is made up of wonderful, giving, helpful people and if we band together we can not only pull this off, but make it a huge success! Thanks everyone for your great attitudes and assistance! :beerchug:

Something else came to mind.

It probably would be good to have an extra large/hefty/plus sized TECH TEAM! If you are qualified please let the Tech Crew know you can assist.

Also someone helping hand out wristbands and stickrs might be needed.

So does anyone know, can I autocross without my (Boxster) top on if I don't have a full face helmet?

Hi Marie,
I believe under Zone 8 rules a face shield or goggles are recommended but not required for AX in an open car. Check with the event rule meister to be certain. As far as I am concerned you are ok to run topless. :D

In the last 5 years pre-registration was not required, so after the fact it is, without notice. After a year of "scrounging" the club is now turning away Participants (CUSTOMERS) unbelievable.

It's great that A/X attendance is up, but I'm bummed that I can't run Saturday because the event is full. (Yes, my fault for waiting to the last minute.) For future events, might I suggest that non-club members be allowed to register ONLY at the trailer if space is available. It hurts to see "my spot" taken by a ________ (fill in the blank with a car other than a Porsche).

I'm not happy and there are a lot of"if's".The events are run by volunteers doing the best they can without much training & when does fun become work? We need to figure out how to run more cars, not less. IMHO. Have fun don't forget the 3 spin rule, I will be breaking in my new driving gloves pruning the trees.

The beginning of the year with the volunteer change and short daylight hours is always difficult and the AXs take more time to pull off. WE have to be finished by 5:00.

Then, there have been club policy changes to allowing other non-P cars to drive IN ORDER to be able to afford to have an AX at all. So we do have to remember that the AX Chairs make the call, and I can see they want this event to go as smoothly as possible.

Just sign up ASAP for the events, and avoid any problems, no charge to cancel. They usually have sign up available for the next AX a few days after each completed AX.

VOLUNTEER AND TRY NOT TO COMPLAIN AND JUST DRIVE OFF YOUR FRUSTRATION - that gets a fire going under the seat.

In the past we successfully ran 140+ cars through an AX and finished at 5pm (with 12 laps each).

122 shouldn't be a problem if we keep things moving. 4 laps in the first session (NO parade lap), 4 laps in the middle session, and 4 laps in the final session = 1464 laps. Previously we had parade + 5, 5, 4 laps with 90 cars = 1350 laps and we were ending early. We can't do 8% more laps in the extra hour or so?

Worst case, if we are running late by late morning, drop to 3 laps in the middle session for a total of 1342 laps, which is less than what we have been running.

Where is the problem??? :?:

Turning away people at the trailer, especially without prior warning, is not a way to encourage future participation. :banghead:
