Design a Course!

Postby Mmagus on Fri Feb 11, 2011 9:43 am

Hi everyone,
Want specific elements in an AX course? Do you like dreaming up interesting twists and turns? Maybe have a hankerin’ fer’ NASCAR? Ever thought “man that course was great except for _______ .” Ever thought, “OH MY GOSH…Who drew up this mess?!” Well here is your chance to put up or shut up…errr…ummm…ahhh… I mean…get involved and…ahhh…express your artistic design flow!
Jump in now and Design a Course!! It really is an enjoyable process and can be challenging as well. After you finish it, please post a link to it in this thread for all of us to enjoy. Then we will choose from them for upcoming events. April is already taken but we have many to follow throughout the year, so don’t hesitate. Here is a blank West lot template:

On a serious note I want you all to know that as the person on the AX team who is doing course design, I greatly appreciate your helpful suggestions and input. Carl Vanders reminded me of this idea in another thread. (thanks Carl!).
I am looking forward to seeing what people post!

Cheers,
Mark

PS. If you would like a copy of the template in PowerPoint, PDF, or image file sent directly to you please PM me with your email.

I am looking forward to seeing some new courses, although I have to say we haven't had a bad course in a loonnngggg time. :D
A couple of suggestions for would-be course architects from the Timing side:
1. Slaloms near the finish can be hazardous - both to the timing equipment and to re-runs. When a slalom cone is knocked down near the end of the track, we can have several following cars get re-runs before it gets reset. With slaloms in the first half of the course, we can hold start while it is reset without usually having more than one following car affected. And of course, if a car goes off track in a slalom and doesn't finish, it can mess up the times until we sort it out.
2. High-speed abrupt turns right before the finish can pose dangers to the timing equipment. Some drivers ( ) have been known to spin right at the finish, seriously endangering our precious timing gear. Your tracks should slow the cars before the finish and/or make the finish a straight through the lights.

FAST and WIDE with any tight sections being downhill off camber so we can all hang the *** out  Although based on my last timed lap I don't need any help hanging it out...9 cones sliding sideways through the finish really doesn't help my times but it did get a nice applause :burnout: My sincerest apologies go to I think Peter and Jackie who were working that corner!!!

While suggestions are apreciated. And welcomed. And I am making note of them. Please note that we are looking for actual courses designed and drawn up, then posted here.

Thanks! :beerchug:
