In Car Video, 5/7/11 auto - x

I finally have You tube figured out lol. Here are my three timed runs from Saturday. Very fun/fast track. Much applause to Mark Bray for stepping up and grabbing auto-x chair position by the horns. Him and Jerry B do an awesome job! Especially yesterday dealing with our Crumbling Q parking lot :banghead:

My second Timed lap was Exactly the same as my dads best time! 1:07.43 so I really had to push the last lap (in the right places of course :D ) All day in practice we were able to run the whole track in 2nd Gear. Got to love stock gearing sometimes! in timed runs I found a spot were I could grab 3rd gear with some benefit. Oh and those Done hill, off camber, increasing radius turns were very fun to try and get through fast. Very fun Day

So that's how to find 5+ seconds! I was surprised to see your line through the slalom as I was convinced the exit going that way was too tight. Were all the fast cars using that line? Great driving as always, Erik

Great driving as always Eric! Man that car holds a line!! I see you went to 3rd for a short stretch there before the swale?

I wish you would have Jerry. I might have caught you then. :roflmao: I tried that entrance to the slalom and lost too much carry through speed that I couldnt make up in my massive 135hp car. But who knows? I am baffled as to how my same lines ended up a second slower in timed runs vs practice... and how you and Mark pulled an additional second off my best lap in any run all day. :banghead: Call me Captain 3rd!

Great time Erik! Thank goodness you didnt take the right line through the chicane otherwise you would have been even faster.. Exiting on the right of the chicane puts you on the gas before the middle cone and sets you up for the coming left better.. IMHO...But I wasnt the one with TTOD so what do I know.... You shifted into 3rd where I was but somehow my third is much higher gearing.. Dont worry , I can instruct you next time..you know just to help...

That was definitely a phenomenal drive, Erik. I thought that the slalom cones moved during the day from being in a straight line for the first practice session to having the middle cone offset slightly to the uphill side for the later sessions, which made the opposite entry to yours (going to the right of the first cone) seem more favorable, so that's the line I took. Obviously, it didn't make much of a difference to you! I know it didn't make a difference to me, because I was flat through the slalom in third gear anyway, so there was no time for me to gain there in my relatively under-powered car. It sounded like you had to lift a little going through, though, as you obviously had more speed coming out of the previous straight.

My little, short 205 tires made my gearing completely wrong for that course. Most of it was too fast for second gear but a lot of places were too slow for third, so I was shifting 7 times per lap in practice, and then made 9 shifts per lap in timed runs after the pavement broke up and the course was changed! Definitely "non-optimal." Still, you beat me by 5 seconds this time, and in Jan. it was 6. Are you sure there wasn't a 1:05 out there for you somewhere?

Here's a much slower car going around the track.

Tom, I have to agree with you. I think the car had a high 1:05 in it. I just could not put my finger on what section of the track would have been able to handle the extra speed.

This may sound like an Excuse... but the last two corners were the only place on the track that our BLUE car was only doing OK through. We are still working to get the balance right between front and rear grip. In the High speed Corners it feels about right but the slow stuff it gets a little tight/pushy, and I just could not put the Throttle done as soon as i would have like too. All in all It was VERY fun, andthat was the best drive my dads had in awhile!! lately the norm is for me to beat him by 1.5 - 2.5 sec but he was only .9 away on Sat  Or is the (i'm getting old bug) finally catching up with me haha. 22 is not old enought to start usung that excuse :D

You might have gotten a tenth or two more out of entering the slalom on the other side, I don't know. It sure seemed to me like the second cone had an offset to the right in the later sessions which allowed a straighter line around it if you went to the left of it (less turning needed). This also made the second cone the off-camber turn of the slalom series. Taking the third cone to the right side instead made it an on-camber turn to the next gate and you might have been able to get on the gas earlier for that short straight to the next left-hand 180.

If you had gotten all the power down in the last corner, you might have coned or DNF'd the finish from going too fast! :D  :D

Did he enter the slalom on the left side too? Or did he just tell you that was the favored side, maybe?

HA! No, you are about 40 years away from being able to use the "over-the-hill geezer" excuse. Come back when you start collecting social security checks and use that one.... :P

Fun Day,
A lot of great driving going on!
I was doing tire testing and ran narrow street tires first, then 710's, then A6's. Also, had all new spring rates installed and new front bar to play with. The small a6 tire gearing change for timed runs was a bit challenging. Was in second gear all day till timed, then had 4 or 5 shifts to third and back. So much for my excuses, But you can see in turn three a big lag in acceleration. Hopefully, no more cones, and next time can give the smurf a bit of more of a run.
Also, sorry for the technical/mechanical I had at timed runs. When i pulled out for the practice lap my car made a strange clicking sound. Luckily, Brad diagnosed it in 10 seconds, we had to remove all four tires as fast as possible and jump back out there. Hoosiers do not like heat and jump up several pounds after each lap and running last two laps back is not desired. Much Appreciate the patience in letting me take the last Lap!
