Looks like you got worked by a Vette that wasnt even a Z-06... Although he did have home court advantage.. :D

Not nearly as much as October, but we did have drifting sand across the track. Check out my video of Sunday's practice (the middle video), about 9 ½ minutes into it.

Video of two laps where Mickey and Jad passed me.
I tried to figure out where they were getting all the time on me, but it looks like it is mostly all the straights…and the turns :?:

How did I get worked? I was with him for 5 laps??? Not exactly looking to pass, but I was with him :surr:

Finally looked at my data and found a couple of interesting things.

1. The slow time was purely me, messed up corner 2 on one lap and 14-16 on the other. Oh well :banghead:
2. More interesting, the data showed virtually identical grip levels between R6's with ~ 50 heat cycles (SOW, Fontana & Chuckwalla practice) and slight cording compared to a set with ~ 2 light heat cycles (stickers session before lunch)

R6's seem to last better than I thought without drop off. Guess I gotta stop figuring 1-2 second improvement for new tires :?

Jad

Perhaps the similar data re grip level is attributed to

1. higher ambient/track temps with the newer tires and the time of day

2. perhaps more sand on the track during the times you ran the new hohos

I've noticed significant slip angle on corning when the occasional sand clouds come across that track

It WAS a late model Z-06 with all the full 505 HP and running on Hoosier R-6s. I rode with Mickey, the track owner and very skilled and aggressive driver, when he posted a 1:56.45 just prior to his exercise with Jad, who also ended up posting a 1:56. No, Jad was keeping up very nicely with the 505 HP Corvette. It was a pretty close match.

I didnt get a look at the engine, but when the Vette started Paul and I commented that it seemed to have that "super charger" whine to it. Or...maybe it was just an alternator on its last legs... 8)

I think that video is on Saturday's gag reel. But we should save that one for Motorhead monday. Dirt, flying hands, backwards travel followed by a seemless transition back onto the track were you will see the two skyward facing thumbs... I have my you tube followers to consider.

Wow, R6's with 50 heat cycles. Is that a record? Did you send that into Guinness?

Seriously, it sounds like I need to work on my "smooth". :?

OK, actually counting for the three events, two drivers, it was probably closer to 40 cycles, but included a couple of cup races, not just time trials. That just seemed like a special set of tires, maybe Fontana and Chuckwalla just make the tires look good - though SOW definitely doesn't.

Still, the new tires just didn't seem any better and the conditions didn't seem to change much for anyone else so it wasn't sand, heat, etc. The new set just wasn't any better than the old, tired set, combined with a couple of small driving errors and I lost 1.5-2 seconds in timed runs.

Next time, 1:55 for sure (of course that means 1:55.99999999999 in racing terms!)
