Time to classify you car for 2012!

The new registration form is now on line. http://pcasdr.net/pcasdr/forms/AXRegForm.pdf

For more information look here. http://zone8.pca.org/rules.php . Yes, finally the zone 8 rules have been published.

A good option for modified cars is the DYNO option. You can still sign up for the tech session on the 14th.

Here's the link for the Dyno session thread:

Still room for 7 more cars as of today, according to Martin, so don't miss out--sign up now!

You will also need to use this link to determine your base points, stock hp and stock curb weight.

http://zone8.pca.org/CarClass/ViewModels.aspx

Please look to page 2 of New Revised TECH for the "condensed" version of the new rules.

http://pcasdr.net/pcasdr/forms/AXRegForm.pdf

The complete rules are available now on the Zone 8 website http://www.zone8.pca.org under Competition Rules, or you can also see the link above.

All the information is available now and if you have any questions please contact our Rules Coordinator Tom Brown TB911@tbsoftware.net
or your Autocross Chairs AX@pcasdr.org

The first Autocross will be February 5th and will be posted on the calendar soon. Please get all this sorted out before arriving to the Tech line.

Thanks!

The registration form does not allow you to enter 30 points each for both aftermarket torsion bars and sways. You only have the option of entering 30 points for combined subsections R and S instead of 30 points for each item. The form will not permit a value of 60 points.

:? What about the cars older than 1992 for Street Stock Class base points?? It's frustrating for 944's, 911 Carrera's, 911SC's, 924's, 928's, 914's 356's, 912's, 911S's, 911T's, to determine base points with the current sheet. :surr: Last time I was at an AX, I saw:

914
924
944
911T
911SC
928

"Hello, and welcome to the AX series. If you drive a car older than 1992, please move yourselves and your old vehicles over to the far west area of the pits where the sign "Chopped Liver" hangs prominently above the port-o-pot. Do not speak to us unless spoken to. Now, the rest of us in real Porsches can enjoy ourselves."

(Us old guys in old cars are just lookin' for a little respect here ... cough, cough ....weeeze  )

Yes, that is correct--there appears to be a bug there in the fill-out form programming. That field is combining spring rate/torsion bar mods and swaybar mods (Items R & S) into one entry, yet its properties state: "Invalid value: must be 15 or 30." This is sufficient for only one of the mods, not both. Values of 0, 15, 30, 45, and 60 should all be valid, but aren't. I'll email Tom Brown to see if he knows about this and can fix it.

Good catch, Rod!

Everything can't fit on the AX Reg/Tech sheet, Dan. :D It says: "These rules are abbreviated and are incomplete. See the full Zone 8 rules at zone8.pca.org," and "For Base Points see zone8.pca.org or the rules booklet" right on the sheet. There is no SS class for any of the older cars anymore under the new rules, just like Parade competition. All the older cars are dumped into the CC classifications automatically. The base points for every model are in the Appendix to the rules, or online here: Car Model List. That chart shows that your 1983 911SC has 236 base points. Combine those with your tire points and mod points to determine your class.

You really should create an account and login to the Z8 Car Classification site and add your car to determine your class before filling out the reg form.

The temporary AX registration team may not be able to accept registrations that are not filled out completely and correctly. This could result in having to register at the trailer the day of the event.

So please do your homework. This means correct cars to be driven, correct class and car numbers, correct co-drivers, complete answers, double checking that your credit card information is up to date, etc. etc.!

Gosh, no kiddin'. I guess since I can't read, I missed that.

Or someone really should consider making the form representative for all members to use equally. If you can't provide it for all, provide it for none. The current form appears imbalanced for those in older models. I've always thought it was a good thing to have things fair and equal for all members. Fairness ... a concept woth considering.

Thanks for all your help, Tom. :beerchug:

I, personally, don't mind the lack of a SS/S class for the older cars(<92).
With the base points and mods it becomes a much more fair class system than the old one( don't ask about tire points though) and you can actually race against and beat cars in your class and not rely on the BRI as a class competition.

Sarcasm noted, Dan, but if all this is so obvious, why am I having such a hard time understanding what your beef is with the form? What is the "imbalance" you speak of that is so disrespectful to the older cars? Are you saying that the list of SS classes should be deleted because there are no such corresponding classes for the older models now? Is that what you mean by "If you can't provide it for all, provide it for none?" What is it you would rather see on the form, specifically, that would be more "fair and equal," given the limited space? I'm sorry, I just don't "get it." Are you simply lamenting the loss of the SS classes for the older cars? That bus has left the station, I'm afraid. We are talking about the reg form here, not the rules themselves, right?

I'd like to hear your comments, too, John, since you seem to agree with Dan. I'm totally confused about what the problem with it is, and my car is 15 years older than Dan's, so I guess I should be feeling even more incensed about being slighted. Am I too dense to be righteously indignant when I should be? What am I missing?

Thx,
TT

Tom,

So what class would a stock '67 non-S run?

John Straub wrote:Tom,

As in all the CC classes, with any car, that depends entirely on what tires you run. Every non-SS model has at least 2 if not 3 possible classes to run in. That's why it is impossible to provide a listing for them on the reg form. The decision is yours to make, there is no single answer to that question. The SS classes are the only ones with a defined link to a single class according to what model car you have, and only if you meet all the other listed requirements for Street Stock. That's why the newer cars (the SS eligible ones) are the only group to be listed as having a direct correspondence to a single class on the reg form--there is no such 1 to 1 correspondence for any model car from any particular year to any single CC-class.

Here's my best answer for you: Any '64-68 911 has 172 base points. With no other mods at all (even a factory LSD), as long as you run 205 or smaller tires w/ no lower than 50 treadwear rating, you would be in CC01. If you ran soft tires of 49 or less treadwear or race slicks, you would be in CC02. If you have an LSD (even if it's factory stock) and run slicks, you would be in CC03.

Though my '68 911 is modified, I am in the same situation as you and everyone else in regard to the CC classes. I can run in CC04 with street tires, CC05 with very soft-compound DOT R-tires, and CC06 on slicks. Owners of the newer stock cars have the same choices--they can choose to run in SS, or they can put on softer tires and run in one of the CC classes. There is no mandate that they run in SS. People can choose what class they would like to compete in according to how they prepare their car.
