The beginning of the obsession

Postby Mmagus on Wed Mar 07, 2012 3:40 pm

My mom was going through one of her boxes of un-album-ed pictures and came across these. It gives a pretty clear idea of how all this got started..

In this first on you see me in my Briggs and Stratton powered cart. Dad next to me, Willie the car lot mechanic standing off to the right. Dad bought the cart for my birthday, but left it on blocks in the bay until I earned enough working at the car lot washing cars and picking up cigarette butts to buy tires for it. Now I was ready to go...almost.

In this one you see me decked out in the "racing suit" my mom made me from a pair of coveralls, complete with racing stripe, with Willie next to me. Now I was REALLY ready to go. Yes, those are a few of the cars on the lot. A '56 Ford Stepside, a '58 Edsel, and a '60 Impala, my dad looked at the photo recently and shook his head, all of them were "one owners".

Very Cool Mark, thanks for sharing thos great pics. Did you notice the Bank of America bilboard advertising %5 on a passbook account. Those were different times we had a Ford Galaxy like the one behind in the 1st photo.

These are great photos! I swear I see a hack saw in Willie's hand in the first picture...followed up with one of my personal favorite tools in the second photo...a BFH  He seems to be my kind of mechanic!
