42nd Annual Lone Pine Time Trail

Just thought I would pass this along. It's a fun event in a beautiful surrounding. This was one of my very first events back in 05. It's a blast with speeds over 100mph in the straights. In the past, I have gone up a day earlier and explored the mountains hiking and fly fishing. Will do the same this year. The event location is the site of the former historic Manzanar airport. I would classify this as a laid back grassroots event. Held June 2nd and 3rd. Its also a fund raising event- all proceeds go to Braille Int. Youths Center. I've missed the last few years, but last year I believe 914club had some entrants.

"For 2012, the Lone Pine Committee celebrates our 42nd Anniversary – 42 years of flat-out-fun! This annual motorsport time trial event offers drivers an opportunity to stretch their cars legs around a challenging course in a beautiful and unique location. You’ll get a fast, flowing course that’s over 2 miles long, run one way on Saturday and the other on Sunday. This venue will provide a challenge for all, whether in modified, prepared, street prepared, stock or vintage. Heck, bring those Lemons/Chump/Spec cars and we will create a class for you! There is a great social aspect to the entire weekend with a Friday night hospitality suite and Saturday night awards dinner. And we certainly can't forget to mention the after-party! Don’t be left to hear the stories from all your friends of a great weekend – Be There! http://www.lonepinetimetrials.com/

+ 1 big one for Lone Pine - I first went in the early 80's, and have always had a great time there. My son has gone for the last three years, I was able to make it two years ago for my first time in over twenty years. My son, my brother, and I are planning on doing it this year.

Some of the old timers will remember Craig and Renee Angel. Lone Pine was Craig's favorite event, and when he passed away some years ago it became the Craig Angel Memorial event and Renee worked very hard to keep it alive. Renee joined Craig during this last year, but Brett Norgard is doing a great job of keeping it going. It is a grassroots, very loose event - the intent is fun and fast. While there tends to be only 2 timed runs per day, the "parade laps" which start each morning tend to be more like a half an hour practice session, and I always get in enough driving to be very much worth the drive up. A long standing tradition is the shared "Rent-a-Racer" - one year, a Lincoln Town Car. The tires did not look too good when the car was returned...

I encourage all to come up, support the event, and have a great time - I'm sure that we will.
