Paid substitute corner worker

Postby JivenJim on Sat Aug 25, 2012 11:30 am

So I was talking with some SCCA autocross'ers, & heard college kids are being paid $10, as a substitute corner workers. Driver gets a rest and College kids could easily make $$. That actually sounds like a bussiness model I would endorce, assuming they had been trained with an instructor (same as drivers)

Whatcha think?

Sounds like a neat idea, how much do they pay them to be substitute cones?

I'm guessing slalom and apex cones get paid the most

Has anyone considered the liability and/or insurance issues should one of them get injured?

As an attorney, I dont think the independent contractor argument would work. If a group of college students, or others, put together a small business where they offered corner work services to us, BMW, SCCA, etc -- then that would probably qualify as an independent contractor. If we just went out and got people to do the job, telling them when, where and how to work -- they would not be seen as independent contractors if injured.

Having said that, I'd pay for corner wrokers.
