How much throttle going down the hill Steve? 100%?
This track left an impression like none other I have driven so far.
This time I SWEAR I will go over 100 entering 8 Really!

Steve I request another right seat experience and I won't say anything entering 8!

Can't wait to see everyone there :-)

Monte, I didn't think you said anything last time. Screaming isn't really talking, is it? Maybe you'd like to ride with me? It should be fine. Fast track, modified 911SC, fast 944 driver, what could go wrong?

And yes I was saying stuff, like "We are gonna die for sure this time", and "wow this car brakes better than it looks" and "Ohhhh Sh***t we aint gonna make it"

seriously that was Mr. Toad's Wild Ride with Steve. Can't wait to do it again either.

Monte
I would love to give you another ride this time.
This time we will put the video on you instead of the track.
I would suggest going out with mark early before he finds the cars limit
That lap will happen and probably wont be the one you want to be riding shot gun for.
But hey! That car does have a nice full cage so at least you will be safe even if...

Oh, you will see the limit pass by just a few feet from where you are :burnout: ( I know that smilie is called burnout, but it also looks like happy until you start spinning and end in a cloud of dust)

Not sure what is typical, but if you look at the results TTOD was 1:29 and top ten went to 1:35

The Boxster Brothers ran ~ 1:42 which is about where the 944Spec drivers were

Mark Rondeau turned a 1:36 in his 944S :surr:

Greg,
I was just wondering so sounds like under 140
Is getting good. I went today with speed ventures
For a practice day. It was very fun, had a blast.
Last year my 1st time there is was 148,
Today I got down to 1:42:15 on my best lap!
I was quite happy until I looked at last years times.
142 felt like it was flying! Lol but I think I learned turn 1 and 2
well. I was not braking into 2 and sliding around the entire turn
So that was a total blast! Turn 3 is still tough to
Figure out. When you hit 4 right you really fly down the hill!
I broke myself from braking entering 8 too. I got up to
About 110 was as fast as I could get and carried it
Thru to 9. Turn 9 is tough to hit right too. I was losing
Lots of time in 9. But it was fun! Can't wait to go again!

Don't forget the effect of temperatures in this equation.
I will guess it was quite warm there yesterday as it was warm at the Q :surr:
When the track cools down, times will improve, until it gets too cold as in some winter events there.
And yes it takes many laps to truly learn Willow Springs. :beerchug:

There is something about this track that makes trying to drive fast more fun.
Maybe it is the higher speeds but the flow of it is really good too. Only 1 real slow turn.

Question on entering 9:
How far left do you go after 8's apex when entering 9?
Do you try to gently arc the car into the decreasing radius?
Or do you point and shoot towards the cone then turn tighter
Towards the apex?

Or some other way? Come on fast guys, splain.

Monte,
This guy has a pretty good teaching vid for WSIR. It is turn by turn, well explained, and essentially the same line Danny and I drive. It's a good warmup video before heading out to the track. His best time there was 1:27 in a street car on NT-01s.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fLCpHnA54cQ

My best time there was 1:40.2 on a cool day in Jan. under ideal conditions. Last year in Sept. it was 95F and the track was still a little green from the recent resurface so few drivers saw their best times. Our little 2.5L pea shooters have no hp to spare so we will need some cool weather for a personal best there.

Thanks for the link Dave! 1:40 looks pretty good to me! And you going to be there the 22-23rd?

Monte,

The 944S can do 1:36's at WSIR. It's easy. Watch the video that Dave Hockett linked to, drive that line and do the following: Don't lift from the turn in to 1 until the braking zone at 3. Don't lift from the turn in at 5 until the braking zone at 9. Approach 9 from the middle left and brake straight to your turn in point for 9 and then full throttle to the braking zone at 1. Repeat as necessary. Your results may vary.

My top speed on that track is 117 right before the brakes at 9. I only hit about 114-115 on the front straight. Speed at the apex of 9 is about 98. Average speed for a 1:36 is about 92 mph. That offer to ride with me still stands.

Mark
Definitely taking you up on that offer for the right hand seat. I want to get rides
From as many red group gents as as I can. The video makes it look so easy! Lol
But the best thing I got outta Saturday was banishing the urge to brake going into 8. No more of doing that!!
